Troubleshooting technical issues is much easier when both the user and support agent practice clear communication. For this reason, we have provided the template below for you to fill out with information about your issue. Please provide as much detail as possible so we can most efficiently resolve your problem.
Description of the issue: When watching a video on YouTube, and entering full screan mode where the navigation bar would be on the phone (will now be on the right side of the screen instead of the bottom) will appear purple instead of black.
Follow up. Youtube seems to be very buged for me. When I am not in a private tab, the purple section becomes white; and now having a video in full screen will not stop my phone from falling asleep. Is anyone else having this issue?
The issue you’re showing is a Chromium one. And it’s particularly appearing for people who are using gestures instead of traditional navigation buttons.
Issue first appeared in One UI 8 for Samsung users and to my knowledge there’s no fix for people on that yet.
Then it started appearing on other Android devices. Supposedly you can go into flags, such as chrome://flags or brave://flags and set EdgeToEdgeEverywhere to Disabled and it goes away. But feedback is that doesn’t work on Samsung devices for some reason.
Oh I see, and it looks like I was mentioned as another user with that problem in that forum. So I guess the only thing I can do is wait for this to be fixed in a later update?
I’m actually experiencing this bug with the opposite conditions you stated. When I use the traditional 3 button layout, that is when I experience this bug; but when I use any type of swipe gesture, they will hide themselves properly in a full screen video.
@Platinum weird. Not sure if it’s a sign of them trying to fix things or why it’s being reported differently. But summary I was giving is just the feedback from the many different places I was monitoring as it’s been reported and the bulk of the feedback initially given.
Like said, originally it was only Samsung devices. Then others, especially Redmi, started having the problem. Not quite sure where else it might be flaring up or why.
That said, did you try changing the flag that I mentioned?
thanks for this info. This works for me, I use classic navigation buttons instead of gestures but setting the flag to disabled, removed the grey border.
Although I see that the videos does not occupy the full length/width of my screen. Meaning there are black borders on all sides. IAM not sure if this is reported else where or not.
Earlier I was able to watch the videos on full screen without any borders.
I am using Brave 1.84.133, Chromium 142.0.7444.53 on Android (Redmi).
Can you please tell me what could be the reason for that ?
@A25 Honestly not sure. As they linked earlier, there’s an open Github. But since this is happening in other browsers, it’s likely going to be an upstream fix. And I’m not certain if this is something changed in Android, Chromium, or what? As said, it’s already changed from idea of being only Samsung devices using One UI 8 to then people with other devices experiencing it. So not sure the delay before it started showing up for everyone else. And why downgrading OS for some was a solution.
My assumption is it’s just some interplay between everything. I think overall we’re just all having to hang tight while it gets worked on.
Btw, @Platinum and @A25. Wondering if you can check something out of curiosity. If you use Brave Nightly, does the issue happen there as well? And can you test to confirm that you’re also seeing the same behavior in Chrome?
Since things are changing and perhaps experienced differently, wanted to confirm that.
@Saoiray: I see that the behavior is same on chrome also. I just installed/enabled it on my phone and checked. The video has black borders and is not displaying in full screen.
I give up! lol. I think you all said the opposite of this, right? I’m wondering if it’s two different types of issues. But crazy to see what seems to be the same thing happening to people but kind of resolving in different ways.
Interesting update (for anyone who still cares). When in a private tab, the bug is still present like before, but when I am not in a private tab; I only exercise the bug every other time I go into full screen mode. Hopefully this issue gets fully resolved soon as it was noticed it is a problem across many Chromium browsers. And at lest for me in this hour it looks like something is being done to fix it.
As for me right now, it looks like the bug has been fixed! Now every time I open a video, private tab or not my navigation buttons are properly hidden. I’ve also noticed the better fix for untra wide videos, were before it would literally be a black bar on the right of my screen but not the left; the navigation bar is properly hidden and becomes transparent when I pull it up.
