Cant use spotify or netflix. Running Brave on Ubuntu 20. This is what i am seeing when i try to update.
Components are updated by Brave’s component server, clicking on Check for update shows Status - Component not updated message because the corresponding data hasn’t been updated on the server yet.
You could make Brave re-download the Widevine component by deleting the WidevineCdm folder, which you could find under /.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser.
The .config folder is a hidden folder so you have to enable Show Hidden Files when in your file explorer.
I cannot find this file location. Little help?
| Linux: | /Users/YOURUSERNAME/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/ |
|---|---|
| or in shorthand format | |
~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/ |
Could you check whether brave://settings/content/protectedContent is enabled?
All right, let’s try the following:
- Go to
brave://settings/extensionsand disableWidevine. - Relaunch Brave.
- Go to
open.spotify.comand check whether you’ll be prompted to installWidevine.
I am prompted to install again. Shall i install again?
Yes, install Widevine.
Installed. Restarted browser. Same result.
All right, try the following:
- Go to
open.spotify.com. - Click on the padlock icon in the address bar.
- Click on
Site settings→Clear data. - Go to
brave://settings/clearBrowserData. - Set
Time rangetoAll time→ selectCached images and files→Clear data.
Did it. Restarted the browser. No dice.
We continue our attempts in resolving the issue, then.
Check whether open.spotify.com works as expected in a private window.
The same problem in a private window.
Check whether the issue persists in a fresh user profile, that will tell us whether the issue is related to your current user profile in some way.
Same thing in a fresh profile.
We’re discussing only Spotify, but did re-installing Widevine resolve the issue on Netflix?
Is the taken screenshot from the fresh user profile, I see a couple of extensions and a couple of open tabs?
