You have the Update Button at the top right. When you push that it opens the menu that has yet another button to press to update and when you press that you get a button in the middle that you have to press.
The category? Have you ever used it? It’s shows hundreds of options if you can even scroll them. Adding a category is a way of combining things not making them more granular.
It pulls up any settings that have the relevant terms in the setting or the settings description, which is why you see “more”.
Maybe that’s what it does for you but not on my tablet. It shows just random items that have nothing to do with what you’re searching for.
Wow word censorship. Not allowed to use the word sh*t. What are you second graders?
This is typical behavior for most browsers (assuming the app is already opened when the update becomes available). You could also Ctrl + Q to quit the app then relaunch it and it should apply the update which is at least one less action.
Are you referring to this category drop down on Community? If so I’m not seeing the problem – click the drop down, choose from the list, which is scrollable and there’s also an option to type and search for the category you’re looking for. Alternatively, you can simply visit the appropriate category on the site, then click New topic and it will start the thread in that category.
Can you share an example (screenshot would be helpful)?
Manual updates have worked like that on pretty much every browser I’ve used (Chrome and Edge use the exact same Menu -> About -> Relaunch steps too).
Keep in mind there is a difference between forcing a manual check and waiting for automatic updates. If you completely close your browser regularly, it will eventually grab the update in the background and apply it on the next launch with zero button presses. Maybe that’s what you were thinking of?
I have only ever used Windows for Desktop so wouldn’t have any idea about other OS. They all have their own unique traits and limitations. Which other OS did you use where it is different?
The update process should be the same across all platforms. As I mentioned before and while I apologize for the arduous extra click, this is pretty typical for most browsers as @Hikane states. I suspect that there are some exceptions to this, there are several ways for you to initiate and apply an update:
When you see the update notification where the main menu appears, simply quit/relaunch the browser and the update will be manually applied
You can visit Settings > About Brave to force check for any updates
If you regularly close your browser when not in use or your PC is turned off while an update is available, it should be applied the next time you launch the browser.
Lastly, the reason the method you’re mentioning requires the additional click (to Relaunch) is to ensure that users want and are ready for the browser to close and relaunch in order to apply the update. It is a simple way to ensure the user has consented to applying the update and is okay with the browser closing.
I think that’s probably enough regarding the update process feedback. If you want to discuss any of the other issues you mentioned in your initial post I’m happy to do so – simply reply to the followup questions I asked previously regarding those issues and we’ll go from there.
Someone’s been into the categories. They’re delineated between I guess what’s the primary catgegory and the sub-category. Still not in alpha order which is weird and you can see by the number of Uncategorized people tend not to use them because they aren’t typical of a selection list.
There’s something weird going on with cursor relocation. You’re typing along and all of sudden find your in mid-sentence somewhere else.
I think you and everyone else are perfectly capable of finding the correct category to post in. There’s no bug here.
What you’re seeing is the settings that contain the word “tab” in them be pulled up, then the yellow tooltip saying how many times the word “tab” is found. So there is “1 result” in Security that has the word tab, 9 in Site & Shields settings and if you continue to scroll down you’ll see more. It’s working as expected (even though I think more relevant settings could be pulled to the top of the list and displayed first).
Everything is nearly identical across all desktop PCs. Android and iOS defer because they’re entirely different devices. You’ll find that this is the case for most apps in existence.

Well there another waste of 20 minutes I’ll never get back talking to you. Just another shill.
Here’s a short recording of me searching for several different categories. All came up as expected, scroll bar works, no bugs while typing. Test on macOS, Windows and Android.
Feel free to share more details on what steps you take that lead to the bug and I’ll be happy to investigate it.
And not sure what exactly your request is for the differences in browser layout with respect to platform. That’s…just kind of how it is? If you open another browser (or any app, really) on Android, then on iOS they will likely have their own differences due to the operating system’s underlying architecture, renderer, policies, etc.
If you’re having trouble finding something on any of these platforms, let me know what it is and I can assist you in finding it.
