Why am I now seeing ads on YouTube DESPITE blocking ads and trackers?

As of today, July 6, 2026, I am seeing ads on YouTube’s website. This is DESPITE the fact that I have enabled as many settings as I could find to BLOCK ads and trackers! So why, just WHY am I seeing ads on YouTube now?

Because Youtube keeps making changes to counter ads blockers / Brave Shields.
Adblock filters need to be updated to continue to block ads.
This is what you should try when it happens:

  1. Update filter lists:
    Open brave://adblock
    Tap on Update button in the top right.
    Close and re-open the browser. Open Youtube and test.
    Also try with Experimental ad blocker enabled and disabled.
  2. Make a post in Ad-Blocking category on this forum to report the issue. Provide enough information in the template.
    This is to notify the Brave Shields engineer about the issue.
  3. Wait for it to be resolved.

BTW, I haven’t seen any youtube ads currently, using Brave Nightly, default + my regional filters, standard Shields settings.
