Video pauses when video is tapped and not the pause button [Youtube]
Description of the issue: YouTube has been working fine for the past years when I switched to Brave. I tap on the video, it shows me the pause/play button, I press the pause button, video pauses. Simple as that. It’s the same thing when I when I go to a certain time stamp on the bar. Recently, there has been an update or glitch that makes me pause on the video every time I tap on the video on my Brave app instead of pressing the pause button. It works fine at full screen mode but not when it’s normal. I want to pause a video whenever I press the pause button on the video, not freaking when I tap on the video. I test it out on Dailymotion and Twitter/X and they work the same when I used YouTube. I tap on a video, the video shows me the pause bar and the time bar, I press the pause button, the video pauses. Simple as that.
How can this issue be reproduced?
Solve and repair the glitch.
Make the new mechanism an optional thing for YouTubers can use.
Expected result: I just want to pause the video without needing to tap on the video whenever I’m not in the video’s full screen mode. Just a simple “press pause button to pause the video.”
Update: For clarification. The mobile device is a recent model Iphone. Not the newest phone, but a recent one. The desktop mode works fine, but I don’t use it until today. The desktop mode is not my thing since I have to tap the video more than once. Unless I’m using my computer to watch videos back at home, the IPhone’s Brave browser app is the only way I can watch videos.
Update: Apparently, YouTube is having the issue instead of Brave. Different browsers on IOS are having the same situation. Safari, Firefox, even DuckDuckGo. I Apologize for the confusion I caused to the community and the developers/IT.
First, what mobile device? You didn’t mention what kind of mobile device this is, so my answers will be limited to generic answers, nothing that may be device specific.
Second, is YouTube possibly in “Desktop” mode? I ask because on YouTube for desktop, clicking on the video is indeed a pause button as well, so if the desktop version of YouTube loaded, I’d assume tapping the video would pause it as well.
I am having the same issue on iPhone 16 IOS 26.2.1. When I tap the video to try and press the play/pause button or even when trying to search/skip forwards or backwards 10 seconds it just pauses or plays without me typing the actual pause button.
I am in mobile mode not desktop mode. I haven’t updated brave or IOS before this happened. One day it just started.
No, not at all. I’m not a developer, I’m just a user who helps.
In troubleshooting, even if I say I cannot reproduce on Android, that helps the developers focus on where the issue could be, hence I said “perhaps isolated to iOS” so they can focus on such a solution.
I can’t reproduce this on my end but seems like there are quite a few of you all seeing this. Can anyone here experiencing this confirm the iOS and Brave version they’re using for me? I’m reaching out to our iOS team presently.
Now that would be interesting because on iOS, all web browsers must use Apple’s WebKit engine.
That could be interesting. Can other users who are having this issue on Brave test other browsers as well? (I wonder, did iOS have a recent update as well? I only have an Android phone these days so I don’t know Apple’s modern release schedule for iOS updates. EDIT: 7 days ago there was an update.)
Actually scratch that – this appears to be an issue on Youtube’s end rather than Brave’s. We’ve tested on our end as well – issue occurs in FF, Safari, and Chromium-based browsers.
Will likely need to wait for YT devs to resolve this.
Yea, I think this may actually be an iOS issue as it seems one of the iOS updates is when it started, hence I cannot reproduce on Android (if it were YouTube, I’d expect this to happen on Android as well since it’s the same mobile site, and their player should react the same based on the touch event), but it seems everyone now can on iOS.
Either way sadly though, it still won’t be something Brave can really fix, Apple will need to fix WebKit on their end.
