Unable to download files or upload files in brave browser

Suggestion - follow what @Mattches wrote, re creating a new user profile - for testing your download issue:

It's been a few days now that Brave blocks legit popups on work websites and hangs pages even with all protection deactivated

Can you test this issue in a fresh browser profile (Menu --> More tools --> Add profile) and tell me if you get the same behavior there? Also make sure you only have one browser window (the new profile) open when performing this test.
