This site cannot be reached on windows

Description of the issue: I have been using brave for more than 3 years, since last month I have been encountering “This site cannot be reached“ error. Tried uninstalling the browser, clearing cookies and Disabling Brave Shields.
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open LinkedIn.com

  2. Open https://chatgpt.com/

  3. Open https://perplexity.ai/

Expected result: The website should open directly in first attempt

Brave Version( check About Brave): Brave 1.88.134

Additional Information: After multiple refresh the browser is able to load the website, the browser should not take multiple attempts to access the website.

Can you give us the full error? Usually there’s an actual error ID in all caps underneath.

I am not having any of these issues here, so until we know that full error (the one in all caps), we don’t know if it’s a route issue, TCP/IP stack issue, DNS issue, etc. We’d be guessing since these sites work fine here.

All I can recommend is:

  1. Check your computers date and time/time zone. Make sure it’s correct.
  2. Check your Internet connection stability with Speedtest.net (namely not actually just the speed, but the ping, including jitter).
  3. Check for extensions that may be installed. When uninstalling Brave some users don’t clear everything and thus reinstall on top of a profile that might have something going on, which leads us to:
  4. Try a new temporary test Brave Profile.

The one in all caps is “ERR_CONNECTION_RESET“

  1. Computers date and time/time zone is correct.
  2. This is my speedtest result

3. I have uninstalled all the extension, to check if any one of them is causing any issue.
4. New temporary test Brave profile seems to be having same issue.
Please note these websites are accessible using Edge, Chrome and Firefox without any issues.

All 3 sites are using Cloudflare ← that is a problem → the Cloudflare user (the website), sometimes has not yet learned how to fine tune the Cloudflare product settings.

That makes a bumpy ride, for Brave Browser users. Sometimes I can figure a workaround, but sometimes I use another Internet browser.

And sometimes, a different VPN server (ie different location on the planet).

To check on Cloudflare presence, I used:

Interesting! What is surprising to me is that all 3 sites were working fine till last month and it started recently on some sites.

@roshan_ambhore

Yes, I was frustrated yesterday, when I tried to visit a routine website.

I still encounter the Cloudflare Cops when using Brave Search, usually when I try to go to the 3rd Brave Search results webpage.

The incoming ping was a bit high (not entirely much, but different compared to the outgoing, but I was looking for thousands, not hundreds), but the jitter is low, and the speed seems about right for cable Internet (upload is always slower than download).

Since it was ERR_CONNECTION_RESET that is a bit strange, because the server usually would be doing that, yet I can access those sites just fine.

Since this is the case, I can only assume there’s something going on with either DNS resolution, or a VPN is somehow enabled (but a new profile should have bypassed that, hence I had you try it now than later).

Perhaps since Cloudflare is the common thing as mentioned, try going here: brave://settings/security, then try toggling this off:

(It’s generally on by default, and this one setting is different from the other browsers.)

Thanks for the response @MasterLink

I toggled off Use secure DNS and I am still getting the same error message. I am not using any external VPN.

Do you have any other solution?

Honestly not sure, I just ran across a real life scenario for myself today while trying to apply at my local Ace Hardware, Brave even with shields down will NOT access the site, but Firefox and Chromium will (and Firefox has uBlock enabled).

In my case it was a 403 “Forbidden”, which is extremely strange. I even followed the same advice I gave you and cannot get around it.

I’m not sure if this is related to your issue or not, but this one caught even me by surprise today.

@roshan_ambhore you said you’re not using an external VPN but just to confirm, you’re not using Brave VPN at this time either right?

No, I am not using Brave VPN either.

@roshan_ambhore if you’re still seeing this issue, would you be willing to test the Brave Beta build and see if you’re getting the same result when trying to visit those sites using the Beta?
