brave will lose users if it keeps pushing unwanted content. Each advantage brave has is being diminished by this. forcing content even when user makes it clear that ‘dont recommend contact’ means DONT, will not make me click that suggestion. it is beginning to happen to often i repeat = SUGGESTING CONTENT TO A USER THAT REPEATEDLY MAKES IN CLEAR THEY DONT WANT IT, WILL NOT MAKE THEM CLICK IT.
It depends on what suggestions you are referring to.
Brave is NOT being paid to push “unwanted content”. Please explain in detail, using screenshots if possible:
- What pop-up or suggestion appeared after you disabled it.
- What website this appeared on, or if it appeared on Brave.
- What “content” you were saying “DON’T” to.
- Whether this was:
- Brave Addressbar
- Brave Search
- Brave News
- Or something else
Providing more information is essential for us to give you a reasonable response - right now, it sounds like you assume that Brave ignores user input.
ty for the response. lets talk about the youtube page… that is the true issue. the other pages are fine - in fact the experience is beyond great because brave is free… and fast and non imposing. so kudos to you all.
anyway. on the youtube home page… a lot of india pages appear… nearly every day… in a row.. which i click as not interested. chrome deals well with this and only offers this nonsense once in six months. but from brave its about four or five times a week for me. and one i click on any video (of my actual choice) then there is one video that pops up in the row…at the right from amongst all the other ‘westernized’ videos. i am in india, but in chrome, once you click ‘dont recommend this channel’ the algo figures out it’s indian channels. it is a pettery gripe i know, but my point is that one of the reasons users like myself use brave is because how such things never happen. I WILL still use brave because it is still fast.
but i must mention that chrome is less slow now. many extensions work and more unwanted stuff can be customized.
YOu dont have to fix this… it is for ur info, and frankly i am happy with chrome and youtube via chrome these days.
ty again, best regards. alphafort
Hello, I’d like to kindly say that this is a YouTube issue, not a Brave issue.
I still need to know a few things:
- Are you signed in on YouTube on Brave?
- Are you signed in on YouTube on Chrome?
If both are a yes, then this means that YouTube’s algorithm bases suggestions on your location data, and what it assumes that Indians enjoy watching. However, a good way to get video suggestions that are “westernized” is to use a VPN to change your IP address.
I’d recommend Proton VPN as a free extension, however, if you are willing to pay, Brave offers a VPN in the browser if you wish.
With Proton VPN, it’ll choose what country is most readily available, but you can keep reconnecting till you get the US, Canada, Netherlands etc which all have westernized media recommended.
That’s the whole intent of Brave, unlike Chrome.
I personally use a variety of web browsers. Not one browser truly is the “best” in my opinion. However, I will object with Chrome. If you care about privacy and ad-blocking at all, then Chrome is horrible for the average user. (But please don’t make my opinion affect your decisions).
Hope this is helpful. Please note that I am a user not a Brave employee.
