Description of the issue:
Joined a new laptop’s brave browser to an existing sync chain and the settings and theme are not being synced when selecting Settings from the options of what to sync.
Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.
Select join existing sync chain
Paste/type Sync Chain Code
Select either sync everything or customize sync then Settings and Theme under the sync data option
Observe that settings and theme are not being synced.
Reproduces how often:
Cannot sync at all, so this repeats 100% of the time on the added machine, even after leaving and rejoining the sync chain.
Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
v1.67.119 on both machines
Type of devices currently running on the Sync chain in question:
The Sync chain main machine is Windows 11
The machine not receiving the sync settings and theme is Windows 10
I can confirm the same thing happens for me. Both machines are on Ubuntu, Brave version 1.67.134, fresh install.
Annoying, since settings sync is the entire reason I enabled sync. I have “sync everything” enabled, but the settings are not propagated to the new machine.
EDIT: To be fair, some settings are synced, but not all of them. It almost seems random. Normally I would expect the second machine to mirror the original settings 1:1, with the possible exception of system-specific stuff.
I registered, to answer here. I’m coming from Chrome and was pleasantly suprised, that it was possible to tweak Brave, to look less bloated, like Chrome. BUT Brave sync is truely garbage!
Only option seems manually writing down the registry keys and GPO-settings. Come on, you are able to block YouTube ads, but not to sync basic browser settings??
I just installed Brave, first on a Windows desktop, then on an Android phone, and a Windows 11 tablet.
I am now configuring my browser for the third time, and there are a lot of settings to go through.
Bookmarks, history, etc. all got synced - but enabling “settings” in the sync options didn’t work, not on Android, and not on my Win 11 tablet.
The feature itself is very confusing. Why isn’t this just behind a normal login, like any other browser?
There is also no indication of anything being synced - you have no idea what’s going on. You can look at your history, or look at your bookmarks, so see if they’ve been synced, but there is no other indication that it’s doing anything at all.
I looked at the brave://sync-internals/ page and don’t even see anything that says “settings”, so no idea if it’s even trying to sync my settings.
The browser itself is lightyears ahead of Chrome on every other point.
