Stuck on landscape mode

Description of the issue:

For some reason my brave browser is stuck landscape mode to the right.

I figured out I can knock it out of this if I open another app and use the thing to jump to prior apps. Basically open Gmail on its side. Switch to brave. Wait for it to react and then it will work as long as I stay on brave.

I uninstalled and reinstall and nothing. Using other browsers doesn’t cause this. I’ve been trying one method after another for 2 hours and I haven’t seen any change.

I’m running on a pixel 10. This issue started this morning for me. Idk if my app updated over night.

Note I am using Beta Brave at this time. It works fine. But as I mention this issue started this morning so I’m not sure if I should be worried or it was just a bad update. (No other app seems to have this issue, and the prior night it was working fine.)

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Simply open brave and it automatically goes to landscape mode to the right.

It sticks to that no matter what. The only way to knock it out is by opening up another app like gmail. Hold that sideways and jumping directly to Brave. Going into settings can trigger it back.

Expected result:

It to open normally.

Brave Version( check About Brave):

Brave 1.89.137, Chromium 147.0.7727.102

OS Android 16; Build/CP1A.260405.005

Mobile Device details

Pixel 10 Pro. Up to date.

I’ve been using Brave on it since day 1 of having it, I think late last year. I’ve never had an issue with it until this morning.

Additional Information:

As mention prior I clear the storage, uninstalled the app, and turn off Google sync. And after reinstalling it this happened again.
I’ve tried going through the dev options and nothing worked. I am not sure what else I could do.

I don’t remember if I updated my app last night before going to bed, or maybe it auto updated? Outside of that IDK if something else is causing it, but giving nothing else is having this issue I am feeling more and more it is the app itself. Obviously the sensor works fine. It is just odd as soon as I open it the thing jumps to landscape to the right. And locks itself to that.

I also reported this here https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/54719 I wasn’t sure which is the best place to report it. It is the same report

@crua9

You say you are using Brave Beta, but at GitHub you marked: release (stable) ?

Brave beta is working fine so I’m using that while this bug is happening. but the stable release is the one that keeps getting stuck.

Still an issue with the latest update on the stable version of brave on andriod. Brave beta works fine

And again no other app has this issue.

Looking into it I see

Brave stable is chromium version 147.0.7727.117

Brave beta is chromium version 147.0.7727.102

I wonder if this is the cause?

I figured out the problem. It was user error. I ran the ADB logger

04-26 14:05:21.792 I WindowManager: Display id=0 rotation changed to 3 from 0, lastOrientation=8

logs show a third-party app interacting with the window manager at the exact same millisecond:

04-26 14:05:21.776 W WindowManager: App jp.snowlife01.android.rotationcontrolpro has a system alert window...

Basically I guess this updated

IDK I removed it and it worked fine. Now that I’m thinking about it, I got this years ago because laying in bed and watching videos the screen would often flip when I didn’t want it to.

That’s why I simply use the built in Android quick toggle in the notification draw to turn off auto-rotation, no third party utility to mess around with configs when Android has rotation lock built in.
