By going to the url brave://flags/#enable-force-dark in Brave, you can enable browser-wide dark mode for every website you visit. This is a fantastic feature, even though there are probably 20% or more sites that have issues with this feature that makes the text unreadable unless the whole page is highlighted with CTRL+A.
To fix this issue, I propose a site-specific dark mode implementation. Just like the Brave Shield is site specific, this (I assume) would be a very easy implementation and would be greatly appreciated for both desktop and mobile.
Moved to Edge on Android due to this. They just introduced support for ublock origin and dark reader extensions (link to extension versions can be found from Kiwi browser’s GitHub page as it was discontinued in Jan 2025).
It is quite a shame that Brave seems to ignore this topic, despite adding a “dark mode” experimental setting into the Android Brave browser years ago. Which is strange, considering this might be one of the only “experimental” features found anywhere inside Brave browser settings, and most definitely THE MOST neglected one!
Not only should more work be done on this to finally polish the experience with dark mode on the mobile browser (perhaps adding a toggle per websites would do a lot already?), but this should also be ported over to the desktop browser - I don’t like using any external extensions with features the browser doesn’t already provide, but with something as crucial as dark mode I’m simply forced to.
Please, Brave developers, have some mercy for us dark mode lovers!
