Shortcuts on Android open as a single page and not within the browser. Why?

When I create a shortcut on Android to a particular website from within the Brave browser, that shortcut does not open in the Brave browser afterward. Instead, it simply opens that website page as a single page, and not within the other tabs of my Brave browser. Why not? I need it to open alongside of the other tabs that are currently open within the Brave browser.

It’s to emulate the feeling of an app, like people pin YouTube from Brave on their Android lock screen to replace YouTube the app (for no ads) and this is one way to do stuff like that.

Some websites have that, it’s called Progressive Web App.

When you add a site to home screen, if it shows “Installing…” message then it’s not a shortcut, and won’t be opened in a browser tab.

On some websites, you can choose to create both web app and shortcut. On some other sites, you can’t.

Use this app instead, if you want to create website shortcuts. No more confusion about web apps and shortcuts.

Just share the link from browser to this app and process to create the shortcut in the app.

Still, this function in Brave is buggy. Take this specific site for example, on the latest Brave beta - 1.87.176, there are 2 options - install and create shortcut, but both install web app, cannot create shortcut.
Chrome also has 2 options, and it can create both properly.
Firefox only has install option.
