I have the same problem, the screen turns off while I watch a video, even on YouTube… I love this browser please solve the problem!
@steeven I have not messed with any settings on my brave browser. Everything is default as if its a fresh install. Flags are not even touched on brave.
have the same thing after the new update:1.75.175 VERSION for SAMSUNG S22 ULTRA Android version 14
I don’t know, I just came here to report those 2 bugs, I am new here ~
I have the same bug after latest Apps update. im on Samsung s23+ all os and apps up to date. it’s auto locking the screen after few min of inactive use
Brave 1.75.175, Chromium 133.0.6943.54
Same problem. Updated 2 days ago and it has consistently blacked out since. This is on Android 14.
I am also experiencing this issue, and I have found a temporary workarounds that works for me.
Option 1: Enable autoplay in your browser settings. Go to Settings > Site settings > Autoplay (bottom section) and enable autoplay. Then, restart your Brave browser.
Option 2: (Without enabling autoplay) When you open Brave, open and use a new tab instead of using the last session tab that Brave loads.
My screen doesn’t turn off when I do one of these option. I think by default autoplay is enabled that’s why not everyone is having this issue. And I feel like this happens when the last session tab is loaded from opening brave it is like in background state and stays like that even when playing video since it keeps playing even when the screen turns off, but if you use a new tab or if autoplay is enable it works like normal.
I also tried Beta and Nightly and both is having the same issue for me if autoplay is turned off. I use the same workarounds and it also worked for both versions.
I don’t know if these will work for others too. I am on Android 14
@serab that’s interesting, the option isn’t related to keeping screen on at all. Please let us know in a few days does it still working that way for you?
Could anyone try to see does it happen with shields off on the website with video or not?
I can confirm that the problem appears only when Brave is left running in the background with the screen turned off and you rezume playing the videos with screen on.
If I close Brave completely (from memory) and start it back fresh the problem is gone , reappearing If I let tabs open in the background for some time and rezume playing.
Just made an account here to chime in, I found this thread after googling since im having the same problem with full screen youtube videos.
I tried turning shields off, and it stopped happening. Then I turned shields back on to see if the problem would come back, but it did not. I hope that contributed something lol
I just started having this issue as of today, and (for me at least) the only difference between yesterday and today was that last night my phone automatically installed a new samsung security update, which is version S926USQS4AYA1
I had the same issue (Brave, W10, Dell XPS desktop) and reloaded the Nvidia driver yesterday and the problem went away.
I have the same issue after the latest Brave update, videos work fine in Beta.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro, Android 13
Same thing has been happening to me. It’s a new issue and I haven’t messed with my screen timeout settings at all. I should also add that the idea of having to do that is nonsense because I absolutely, and repeatedly, have seen videos via brave that were longer than 30 mins. I shouldn’t have to have to use my camera either.
I should also mention that the issue seems to extend to the discord app somehow. I thought I may have had some virus or something. Never expected it to be brave itself. I’ve always recommended Brave. I don’t want to have to uninstall it, but upping my display time for everything from 30 seconds to 30 mins is ridiculous.
Yes, will do that. I also tried shields on and off it didnt fixed the issue for me.
I think autoplay(enabled) just help the last session tab be in active state when you open brave. Since screen time out only activates when phone thinks there is no activity happening. So when i open brave and use the last session tab that loads its like that last session tab is still in background mode and doesn’t change so phone thinks there is no activity happening, then phone activate screen timeout. That’s what I thought is happening at least in my case. So i just use new tab and get rid of the last session tab and it works for me.
Looking forward to be fixed since I still preferred autoplay disabled and continue from my last session. Have a nice day.
I’m using Huawei Honor 9 Lite (Android Version 9) and while watching YouTube from Brave Browser,my device turned off after default screen limit in my mobile settings but before update,I didn’t face this issue.
Sorry, may have been said already - I fixed mine a while back by going to settings, Display and Media. Background play was off. b
Well tbh it isn’t a fix because turning on background playback will only make video play without stopping even if the screen is turned off or let’s say you have a song video opened on YouTube you could play it then go back to your home screen and use other apps and the music video will still be playing in the background (it’s not related to screen time out so yeah it’s not a fix) (also the issue comes and goes rn I have not got that issue but sometimes it happens)
Sorry, guess I don’t understand what the issue is then. Isn’t playing in the background no matter what else your doing or even with screen lock on the desired effect?
Regards,
brent
screen not staying on youtube. latest versions of everything. background play works. i need video foreground, not audio background
Clearing cache fixed this for me. Long press brave app icon > info button > storage > clear cache
