Description of the issue: PiP (Picture in Picture) window does not stay on top of other windows in KDE Wayland. When you focus another window, it covers the PiP video.
How can this issue be reproduced?
-
Use KDE Plasma with Wayland
-
Open Brave and go to any video (e.g. YouTube)
-
Open the video in Picture in Picture mode
-
Alt tab or click on any other window
Expected result: The PiP window should stay on top of all other windows automatically.
Brave Version: 1.88.134 Chromium: 146.0.7680.153 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Additional Information: This is a known issue since at least 2024. A workaround is to create a KWin Window Rule in KDE:
-
Window class:
brave brave(exact match —bravealone doesn’t work) -
Window title:
Picture in picture(exact match) -
Window types: Normal
-
Keep above: Force → Yes
Tested on KDE Plasma 6.6, Wayland, Arch Linux, kernel 6.19, AMD Radeon 610M.
This is an update to an older post by the community (2023) that is now closed: Picture in Picture mode & KDE Wayland: window no longer in front of other windows
Workaround found with the help of Claude (Anthropic’s AI).
