Outlook email access

I have synced Brave (mobile and desktop) to my mobile phone. Since then, I have not been able to log into my Outlook email account on my computer.

When prompted to log in, I am presented with a QR code. I have tried to use my phone to scan it, but to no avail. Microsoft Outlook wants me to log in using my phone’s security PIN. I’ve attempted to log in using my last known password, but, unfortunately, that doesn’t work.

When I use Google Lens to scan the QR code (my camera does not work with scanning QR codes), it brings up text saying, ‘use your passkey’, but freezes.

I’m have not configured my laptop to update Brave Browser since installing Brave Browser in July, 2024.

Your issue sounds like, there is some two-factor authentication (2FA) stumbling.

You might test your issue by using Microsoft Edge. Log in to your Microsoft Account. Then use Microsoft Edge to log in to your Outlook e-mail account.

I use Windows 10. When I attempt to log into outlook.com, I am able to enter my email address, but then I am presented with this screen:

.

When I choose ‘Use a phone or tablet’ I get a QR code, which I try to have my phone scan, but Android locks up or Google Lens (my camera does not scan QR codes) just presents me with pictures of other QR codes.

When I select ‘Windows Hello or external security key, I get this:

@Cyber_83 you’re being asked to enter a passkey or use alternative secure devices to login to your account.

If you’re just using a username and password to login, you can still login normally. You just need to click Cancel when that first screenshot displays. Additionally, you can disable passkey integration in your Outlook security settings as well. Lastly, I believe Brave uses the system passkey store so disabling passkeys on your system would work as well.

Thank you! However, when I put my password in, it says that it isn’t recognized.

I would love to use Brave to login to my account. But, I don’t know what to do.

Sometime ago, I synced my Brave browser to my phone and so ever since, I have had this issue with my laptop.

I wish Microsoft Outlook was like GMAIL. No matter what device I use, I am able to sign into my GMAIL account, which also has 2 factor verification through my phone.

You shouldn’t have any problem logging into outlook in Brave – I just did it with my account with no issue. Are you manually entering the password or are you using autofill?

Thank you for the link. I will try to empty my cache and history and see what happens.

After deleting the cache and history on my computer, I made some progress. But, I had to download Microsoft Authenticator and install Outlook app.

Brave for desktop will not accept my password. It kept saying what number do I see in one or the other app.

The dilemma now is that none of the apps display a #.

When I accessed my saved password, Brave had me put my PIN.

U think that I will just access Outlook on my phone.

Thank you so much for trying to assist me!

Ok, this is not a Brave issue at all, I know what’s up (Microsoft certified IT sys admin here actually, and this is something I know about, but I cannot help you, I can only guide you for safety reasons).

For one, if you get an error that a password is not recognized. It means either you did forget the password to your Outlook account, or it was changed at some point (by whom, we wouldn’t know, that’s between you and your Microsoft account to sign into and check for devices accessing your account from something signed in).

The number it’s asking for is entirely MFA as you had previously setup Microsoft Authenticator with your account.

(From Play Store screenshot of Authenticator, this is what the Outlook website is asking from you on Authenticator itself on your phone):

Basically you’d need to reset the password, and use Authenticator to assist resetting it, because you setup MFA with Outlook/Microsoft. (If it’s missing from Authenticator you were supposed to click “Restore” from backup, not create a new chain when you installed it. I made that mistake myself once.)

When I accessed my saved password, Brave had me put my PIN.

That’s your Windows PIN, the one you setup with Windows itself. The one you use to login to your PC with. That’s because to show you a saved password, Brave and all Chromium browsers must unlock the password from Credential Manager, a part of Windows cryptography, and that PIN is your key.

If at all you have no other way in, forgot everything, you’ll need the backup codes when you setup MFA on your Outlook account. You were supposed to write this down, print it, or take a pic of it and save it/keep it only in a secure place to never lose. It’s like a deed to your data. This would be the only way to get back into the account.

However, if you can sign into Outlook on your Android app, and the MFA is present in Authenticator, you should be able to use this combo to reset the password.

Just know, because this is the Internet, I can only guide you to this, but if you still are unable to get in, you will need to reach out to Microsoft for help with this. This is entirely on the Azure side of things.
