I wanted to suggest a small but useful improvement regarding address bar search suggestions.
At the moment, the suggestions you see while typing in the address bar always come from the default search engine. This makes it impossible to mix and match — for example, using Brave Search as the default engine while still getting autocomplete suggestions from another provider like Google.
Personally, I prefer using Brave Search for actual searches (privacy, results, and direction of the project), but I find Google’s autocomplete suggestions noticeably better when it comes to discovering or refining queries. Right now, the only way to get those suggestions is to switch the default search engine entirely, which feels unnecessary.
It would be great if there were an optional setting that lets users choose a separate provider just for address bar suggestions, independent of the default search engine. This could work similarly to the existing “Improve search suggestions” toggle, with a clear opt-in and explanation about what data is being sent.
From a user perspective, this would improve flexibility and control without changing Brave’s default behavior or privacy stance. Users who don’t want this could simply leave it disabled, while power users could fine-tune their experience.
I think this would give users more flexibility without changing the default behavior for anyone who’s happy with how things work today.
