Option to Remove "Ask AI" in Brave Search

Please provide an option to remove “Ask AI” (see attached images) on Brave Search. This is exactly why I no longer use Google Search anymore, yet here you are doing the same sh!t.

This is very annoying and very unproductive.

Thanks

Agreed. Not everyone wants AI shoved down their throats.

Would you prefer it on the other end? Just bend on over and I’m sure they will comply! haha

Dumb humor aside, just use Shields. They have a filter specifically for AI. Go to the content filter area and enable Anti-AI Search Filters. It might be good to remember that you can always right click on a page and choose block elements in order to choose parts of a website you want to remove. It is very easy just to hide the button you don’t like.

Thanks for the tip. However, It only partially solves the problem though. Many AI platforms will also passively collect information. For AI to be completely out of the picture it has to be disabled. There are a lot of people, myself included, that believe AI creates far more risks than benefits. And I’m not even talking about the unfixable security flaws, such as the number of prompt injection and cache poisoning attacks that can happen. I’m not generally a doom-er, but genAI feels like something to be very very concerned with. Couple this with the passive information capture and you have a recipe for real trouble. Anyway, I’d love the ability just to complete disable it from the browser engine completely.

Thanks

Disable Brave AI stuff - my current notes

See the info at following 2 specific links - 1 of them is about Disabling AI chat:

Brave Search

Go to: https://search.brave.com/settings and Disable:

  • Answer with AI
  • Discussions
  • Anonymous usage metrics

At Brave Search: https://search.brave.com/ you may still see the Brave AI icon(s) lingering ← IGNORE THEM.

Windows OS Registry

Basically, the registry path and value that disable Brave AI chat (Leo) on Windows 11 are:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\BraveSoftware\Brave

Create or set this value under that Brave key:

  • Name: BraveAIChatEnabled
  • Type: REG_DWORD (32‑bit)
  • Data: 0 (zero to disable)

How to edit the Registry, if you wish, and precautions (data backup, Windows OS System Restore Point creation, Registry backup), are up to very skilled and careful user who can UNDO “what they DONE.”

MacOS users, without Brave Browser running, you may use the following command in a Terminal.app window: defaults write com.brave.Browser BraveAIChatEnabled -bool false and then Exit / Quit everything and Restart your Mac.

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to brave://policy where you should see:

Content Filters

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to: brave://settings/shields/filters and click a button to allow you to view all of the Filter lists ← Therein, scroll down and Enable Anti-AI Search Filters

In general, use Brave Browser Private Windows, clear cache, cookies, and history on exit ← settings → see the On exit tab at: brave://settings/clearBrowserData

IOW, reduce the availability of info; and DO NOT remain signed-on anywhere.
