Troubleshooting technical issues is much easier when both the user and support agent practice clear communication. For this reason, we have provided the template below for you to fill out with information about your issue. Please provide as much detail as possible so we can most efficiently resolve your problem.
Description of the issue: Unused android phone showing someone else’s recent browsing history, when the phone has been off and for months.
How can this issue be reproduced?
I can just turn on the phone and see days of web history that’s not mine
Expected result: not to see someone else’s web history
Brave Version( check About Brave):
Mobile Device details Samsung galaxy s23
Additional Information: phone is not sync or connected with anybody’s email or account but my own
Version 1.77.101 on the android and no I do not and have never synced. I also have brave on my current phone and do not have some else’s web history and never synced.
@Krdavis03 I don’t mean to dismiss your issue, but this is quite literally not possible unless your device (and the Brave instance you’ve installed) has been Synced to another device. When you install Brave (either for the first time or after un/reinstalling), everything in the browser is created fresh – you will have no History, top-sites, cache/browsing data, added Search engines, and all settings will be set to their default state.
Further, you’ve stated that the phone in question has been off for months – however, the browser only stores browsing history for up to 90 days (~3 months). So even if there was previous browsing history saved in Brave on that device, it should have been cleared.
From what dates are the sites in your history showing? How many sites/entries are there?
I have site searches dated back to June 15 to today. It went back further but was over the 90 days. Some days with no history. Sites like Snapchat, purchasing tickets, pay water bill, and prescription. Most of the history is snap. I do not have a Snapchat and have not had one in over six years. The water bill is not the same company I pay through. Same for the prescription and tickets. All dates that were searched happened on days that phone was off. I got an iPhone in April and after I transferred data, the android got turned off and put away.
I think you’re making a joke here but honestly that’s not a terrible question to ask.
@Krdavis03 is there anyone else in your house that might have accessed the device? Because, again, outside of using Brave Sync or someone having direct access to the phone, it’s literally not possible for someone else’s data to just “appear” on your phone in this way. Even if the device was somehow “hacked”, it seems like it would be a lot of effort to do so just to use the browser a little bit.
If you want to keep using Brave on the device, I expect that a simply clearing your browsing data or un/reinstalling the app will clear all the data and allow you to start fresh.That said, if you un/reinstall the browser and/or clear data and this other person’s data still appears on your device, definitely let us know.
It’s a totally legitimate question to ask. And yes I have a few small kids and a wife. I actually showed it to my wife and got tons of questions about the concert tickets and snap chat. She was unaware of the Brave app so I ruled her out of using it. My main concern was that my device had been compromised but then again, why would someone hack a device just to pay a water bill and buy tickets. I’ll uninstall/reinstall app and see if it works. Thanks for the quick response to my concern.
