When YouTube made changes a few weeks ago it had caught me off guard as well. But I was able to realize once I expanded it back out again, it would stay like that.
I’d try removing the custom filter as a troubleshooting step.
@Saoiray they appear to be talking about the big blank nothing in the body of their You page.
Like here where for me, the menu is collapsed as well because I have the window intentionally small like theirs, but the body of my You page is still filled out and has content I had to blur, with Shields enabled as visible per the URL bar. Since they state this happens only with Shields enabled, and they have a custom filter of which I don’t, I suggest removing that filter and trying again, because my Shield settings aren’t even “light” they are aggressive.
@MasterLink ah, my eyes was going to a different place. It’s what happens when I rush through things. I need to start slowing down again and really looking at all detail. Mind just went to the empty space below You and remembered the problem I had, so went there with suggestion. Let me toy with some of these others.
@fanboynz after the clarification, wanted to show you screenshots and make sure you’re seeing as well then. They are referring to when you click on You which brings us to https://www.youtube.com/feed/you
If Anti-Shorts is enabled, it just loads as a blank page. But if you have Anti-Shorts disabled or turn off adblocking, it will list all videos in History and all the other subsections of You
It was the ‘YouTube Anti-Shorts’ list doing the damage. That list still does what it’s supposed to do on the Subscriptions page, but under the covers YouTube changed the container templates for ‘YouTube Shorts’ on that page to be the same ones used on the ‘You’ page.
So nothing to be done about it but uncheck ‘YouTube Anti-Shorts’ and put up with the lesser annoyance.
I also do not think this is part of the deliberate Brave Ad Blocker arms race, just some collateral damage.
There’s many things getting caught in YouTube’s shenanigans. The banner on YouTube profiles? Sometimes they flicker in and out of existence, have to turn shields off, refresh, turn shields back on, and the banners are back and no longer flickering.
Have no idea why, but I know it’s something on Google’s side trying to make adblocking more challenging. It just happens (and in my banner case, I’m not entirely sure it was the shield either, because turning shields back on kept it fixed, but turning it off temporarily was required, so that’s a hard issue to troubleshoot, since now it’s cooperating).
