It hasn’t worked since day one, what do I do now?
That toggle is not going to help until Brave 1.26, which is currently in Beta. I’d suggest trying again once that version has been released.
I have the same issue.
Using Brave v 1.25.70 under OSX (macOS 10.12.6) also on M1 laptop using Brave v1.25.72 under macOS 11.3.1
Standalone Tor browser works just fine…
Uh huh. And the process to do this is documented where?
I found the profile path on Windows:
C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\tor
I can confirm that deleting the \data directory at this location and relaunching Brave allowed for the “New private window with tor” option to connect to the Tor network and allowed for pages to load.
This is with version:
[Version 1.25.73 Chromium: 91.0.4472.106 (Official Build) (64-bit)](https://brave.com/latest/)
@fmarier Is it on schedule – i.e., v.1.26 migrated yesterday and due to be in Release on 6/22?
@fmarier I switched to and stuck with BETA because TOR tabs were working in it (unlike RELEASE).
But at some point TOR stopped working in BETA, too.
Has this been fixed in a more recent BETA release than mine (the one shown below)?
Version 1.24.76 Chromium: 90.0.4430.85 (Official Build) beta (x86_64)
Thanks.
Yes, that version of Beta is too old. The one I’m running is Version 1.27.69 and the Tor toggle is only in 1.26 and later versions.
@fmarier Well… I just updated to Version 1.26.57 Chromium: 91.0.4472.88 (Official Build) beta (x86_64) … and TOR window/tab is still not working.
Did you toggle the setting mentioned in "New Private Window with TOR" not working - #36 by fmarier?
@fmarier Thanks, I hadn’t but now that I have the New Private Window With TOR option is grayed out.
You can turn it back on and try a Tor window again.
Turning this off will clear out all of the old Tor daemon state. That’s usually enough to make Tor work again.
@fmarier Yes, seems okay now, thanks.
On creating a private window (w/o TOR), crashes Brave too. This is a longstanding problem w/ or w/o Tor. Often just creating the private window or just as often on pressing enter in the address bar.
Brave 1.25 and turned off DuckDuckGo extension.
P.S. the Welcome popup claims its only pops up for the first two posts. I’ve made at least a dozen posts to date.
P.S. Searching for this took too much effort, and I only stumble on this by chance!
Appears to be working since Brave v1.26.67
@fmarier But now, yet again, TOR window isn’t working & toggling its setting off & on has no effect.
Is it necessary to keep updating to the current release to keep this feature alive?
The only thing that’s in 1.26 is the ability to delete the Tor state and reset it back to an empty state by toggling the setting ON and OFF. It doesn’t fix the underlying problem in the Tor daemon because we haven’t been able to identify it.
If you are using 1.26 and toggling the setting ON and OFF doesn’t fix your Tor problems, then you are experiencing a different problem and I would suggest you file an issue so that we can investigate that problem separately.
If you are not using 1.26, then toggling the setting will not help.
The only thing that’s in 1.26 is the ability to delete the Tor state and reset it back to an empty state by toggling the setting ON and OFF.
Thanks, understood. I am using: Version 1.26.57 Chromium: 91.0.4472.88 (Official Build) beta (x86_64) [on a Mac running OS Mojave (10.14.3)]
The toggling did work when you first informed me about it. It seems odd that it would stop working, but I think I’ve seen other posts that claimed the same had happened – ‘was working, but then stopped working.’
So should I still submit a ‘file an issue’ post or is this now a known issue as a result of others having reported it?
Just to be clear, what you experienced was this?
- Tor windows are not working.
- Toggled the setting ON/OFF.
- Tor windows are working again.
- (time passes)
- Tor windows are not working anymore.
- Toggled the setting ON/OFF.
- Tor windows are still not working.
> Just to be clear, what you experienced was this?
Yes exactly. In fact, I still have two tabs open in the TOR window from when it worked.
If I now try to open a new tab the progress meter in the ‘New Tab’ never stops spinning and the tab never loads.
I’m also finding that If I try to open a new TOR window from any normal window, I get switched to my existing TOR window. I can only open a new TOR window from the TOR window that’s already open. (The behavior in the new TOR window is the same. No tab will load. Progress meter spins and does not stop spinning.)
