Make 'New Tab' possible at bottom of screen, when address bar at bottom

The Address Bar at the bottom is great. But it is forced to replace the ‘Bottom Navigation Toolbar’.

The one thing I really want to keep from this disappearing bottom toolbar is the ‘New Tab’ button (appears when home button is disabled).

I really would like a way of opening a New Tab without having to reach to the top of the screen - this is exactly the reason the address bar at the bottom is desirable for many, and opening a New Tab must be the next most frequent task for a lot of users - yet they can’t then do this at the bottom of the screen.

Why does it have to be a choice of Address Bar at bottom OR New Tab at bottom? Can we find a way of having both without having to reach?

Suggestions of where could integrate a New Tab ‘ + ‘ button:

  1. The search bar strip (either side of the ‘show tabs’ button). (This has had suggestions before e.g. https://community.brave.app/t/add-new-tab-button-like-google-chrome-have/602927, with the answer being the bottom toolbar - however this is now not a solution when the address bar is at the bottom):

As an example from Chrome (sorry):

  2. The strip pinned at the bottom of the 3 dots menu (great feature):

  3. Keep the + bar at the bottom of the tabs screen (or an option), even when the bottom toolbar is not visible, as in the circumstance of address bar at [edited:] top.

Apologies if I have simply missed an option, would love to hear. I am new to Brave, and initial impressions are of a fantastic project. I have tried to ensure that I’m not requesting simply because I’m used to a certain way!

Yes, please! This is driving me crazy - having to move my thumb up and down to open a new tab and write the address, etc.

For an example how to do this, see Firefox mobile for Android.

I love using Brave, but this one thing is really messing with the usability. It would be great if it could be fixed!

Settings > Appearance > Toolbar shortcut (Enable in the menu) > select the icon you prefer.

If you dont see Toolbar shortcut menu, then type chrome://flags in the Omnibox, and in the Flags search #adaptive-button-in-toolbar and enable it, restart your browser.

Even after activating the option in chrome://flags it didn’t appear in Settings-Appearance. So no luck there

Also, this doesn’t address the positioning of the button in the tab view.

Thanks @Some186
Settings\Appearance\'Toolbar shortcut’ does indeed appear for me, after turning on #adaptive-button-in-toolbar in the chrome://flags. It has a workaround feel to the issue, but ultimately seems to solve the usability issue as far as I can tell! Would be better as a permanent feature in the interface.

Agree @Mutkitta it still leaves the tabs view without the New Tab + at the bottom without an obvious reason.

I’m currently on: Brave 1.84.136, Chromium 142.0.7444.138
