Description:
I would like to suggest two crucial feature improvements for the Brave browser on Android to make the download manager more secure, user-friendly, and powerful.
1. Stop permanently deleting files from internal storage without an option
Currently, when a user deletes an item from the “Downloads” list or history within the Brave Android app, it permanently deletes the physical file from the phone’s internal storage as well. This makes it incredibly easy to accidentally lose important documents, media, or files just because someone is trying to clear out their browser’s UI and history.
Proposed Solution:
Please introduce a clear pop-up confirmation or toggle choice when a user hits delete, giving them explicit control:
How do you want to delete this download?
Delete from browser history only (Clears the list but keeps the file safe on the phone’s storage)
Delete file from device entirely (Permanently erases the file from internal storage)
2. Bring built-in WebTorrent support to Android
On the desktop version of Brave, there is an excellent native feature called WebTorrent that allows users to stream and download torrents or open magnet links directly inside a browser tab without needing external software.
However, on Android, clicking a torrent link forces users to download and rely on third-party torrent client apps. This creates a fragmented mobile browsing experience and adds unnecessary app clutter to our phones.
Proposed Solution:
Please port the built-in WebTorrent engine over to the Brave Android app. Allowing users to download torrents directly within Brave’s native download manager would make the mobile app a true all-in-one powerhouse.
Implementing these two changes would drastically improve file management and convenience for millions of Android users. Thank you for listening to community feedback!
