LOST 2 Brave Profiles - need help recovering them

Hi everyone,

I’m not sure how or why, but I’ve lost my two Brave profiles. They are still present in the file system, but they don’t show up in the Brave browser anymore. I tried launching Brave with the profile directories using the command line, but I got an error saying that brave-browser is not recognized as a command.

I also tried reinstalling Brave, but that didn’t help either.

I would really appreciate any help or guidance on how to recover or restore these profiles.

Could I just confirm you’re able to open Brave still, just not getting your old profiles? Like opening a new Profile each time you open Brave or if it just doesn’t open at all? (sounds like the latter, but if not)…

Try going here: brave://profile-picker/ and see if anything populates.

and/or going here: brave://version/ and see what Profile Path gives.

Also please share Brave and OS Versions, always necessary when troubleshooting.

I am able to open Brave. I used to have 3 profiles: one for work, one for personal, and one for my sister. Now, I only have my personal profile. I’ve lost my work profile.

@Saoiray, speaking of profiles, if you can help @hannah7 out here too?

Also @hannah7 from the screenshots (which might now be outdated) I can see your Brave version is outdated in them so if you haven’t already, be sure to update Brave, new version came out a couple days ago, as seen here.
(Brave is often updated weekly on Wednesday or maybe Thursday).

okay, If I update, is there any chance I’ll get my lost profiles back?

I’m sorry I can’t tell you, I just thought I’d pass along that there was an update since screenshot

(I know, not super helpful in your current situation but Brave Support does like to support users who are up to date & again just a user trying to help + every comment bumps your post to the top)

Also, if it means anything you’re not the only one I’ve seen having this issue recently. So, I’d suggest coming back on Monday and bumping your post when Brave Employees are back from the weekend.
