Link does not open

Description of the issue:
Leftclick results in a browser tab with empty address bar no result.
Rightclick , open new tab, results in the link opens in browser.

How can this issue be reproduced? Click on just any link. Left fails right works fine

Brave is up-to-date
Brave 1.91.171 (Officiële build) (64-bits)
Chromium: 149.0.7827.103

Additional Information:
Happens since this morning. Very annoying.

I would first check whether it is caused by an extension or profile setting, because right-click opening normally means the site itself is probably not the problem. Try one link in a Private window with extensions disabled, then in a fresh temporary Brave profile if needed. If it works there, disable extensions one by one and also check Settings → System for anything unusual running in the background. If it fails even in a fresh profile, adding your Windows version and whether the same link works in another browser would help narrow it down.

Yeah I don’t think this is a browser issue. As @nubeovejita27 its more likely that this is a result of some extension you have installed or external software.

I did not change anything, like I said it started this morning out of the blue.
Maybe I need to be more elaborate next time.
Chrome opens in the same tab when I click a link on a site.
When I click a link in my mail it opens a new tab.
So same machine different browser no problem.
I had a similar problem some time ago that resolved itself the next day.

I too am seeing this issue. It happens on most links, but not all. the same links open in Edge.

@JohnDMo It apparently depends on the source. I see that too.
In my case it opens in chrome, did not try edge.

Type of link that does not open:
Does not open
Do not know why it works on this site like it should.
Like a copy of the link works

Link that does open:
Works fine

I do not understand what goes on.

I have different profiles for different types of work.
I noticed that on a different profile it works just fine.
So I created a profile called Mail and created the app.
I tried to recreate the app in my work profile, but that did not resolve the problem.
So I can now work with this workaround, but it still puzzles me why my work profile suddenly behaved strangely.
If there is something I can do to have the problem investigated just let me know.

The link you shared opens as expected for me in Brave on macOS, Windows 11 and Linux (Ubuntu).

If it is working in some profiles but not others, I would try opening the profiles that the issue occurs on and clear your cache/browsing data for that profile then test again. You might start with clearing site data for the specific sites that won’t open first. If that doesn’t work, I’d clear out that data for the whole profile, then test again.

Disabling the Privacy Badger extension seems to have corrected the issue for me.

Before disabling:

This link opened: https://www.onehome.com/en-US/support

However this one did not: https://www.foodandwine.com/white-port-explainer-11957171?link_source=ta_first_comment&taid=6a330bc60b835600015e650e&utm_campaign=foodandwine&utm_content=photo&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_term=2026061717

Also if I right clicked the link and chose open in new tab, it opened.

Thanks for that info. It would be nice if it were to warn, not just open a blank tab.

Hello JohnDMo,
Thanks for the update.
The new profile I created does not have Ghostery or Privacy Badger.
So now I know why it worked.

Privacy Badger says it will be fixed in the next Brave browser update.
