Is Brave really advancing?

It feels like Brave invests all the resources on useless AI and the voices of this forum just go in vain.

Does any delevoper from Brave read the requests and the comments over here ?
I came to Brave from Firefox .. but
it feels like Brave is just another Chromium browser with adblocker now.
Am I the only one who is looking at all the browsers right now and go … “WTF are you people smoking ?”
You cand ban me for my comment, I’m ok with it.

We appreciate the feedback. While we do have an AI component to the browser, it is entirely opt-in and does not need to be used. Further, while we are continuing to build our Leo AI, I think asserting that “all our resources” go to AI is highly inaccurate. Some “advancements” (though I’d use the term “improvements”, “features” or “additions”) made to the browser in the last year or so include (but are not limited to):

  • Vertical tabs option
  • Integrated Reading list
  • Brave Playlist
  • Customizable Sidebar
  • Split-view functionality
  • Integrated Brave Wallet for crypto assets
  • Native support for popular Manifest V2 extensions
  • New profile customization options

We’ve also expanded our suite of Brave Premium features such as Brave Talk, VPN. Launched our own privacy preserving Search engine (search.brave.com). All of this in addition to our actual number one priority – ensuring that your data remains private and secure when using the browser.

If you’re not interested in AI, simply hide the icon and elect not to use it. You may also be interested in the Anti AI Search filters option in brave://settings/shields/filters which blocks AI summaries and icons on most popular search engines.

Hope this helps.

You are right, I’m sorry, I was just venting.
I got so soooooo frustrated that Brave, after all these years still does not care about the basics.

Like the profile policy. Compared to Firefox, Chromium is still a barbarian at this. I had to transfer from one PC to another 4 profiles. And 2 of them had to be on a different partition. So I wasted the whole day searching the internet how to do this, including with Chat GPT.
Because Sync doesn’t work fully and some settings remain local and don’t transfer…I have to check each profile setting by setting after Sync, and that take a lot of time. It’s awesome that Brave has a ton of settings but not when you have to move or reinstall Windows/Linux.
Or if the partition where Brave is becomes too small, good luck moving the profile to anoter parition. So I still have to use Sync AND compare the settings from the old one to implement the lefovers on the new PC. And the setting of each Extension.

Not to mention that searching bookmarks in the address bar is still limited to only 4 bookmarks.

Unused tabs are not suspended at startup and I have to use an extension.

It’s the small things like this that get’s me … like who cares If we reach to moon(security and privacy) if we still live butt naked on Earth.

So once again I apologize for my outburst.

No worries.
We have some things in the work that should alleviate the pain of transferring your browsing data across devices and hope to be able to share more on those soon.

We’re also working on implementing workspaces/containers in the Brave: Worskpaces/Containers feature feedback

which should help with the issues you have with the current profile system.

I think the biggest issue with the analogy is the fact that in your opinion, the thing we shouldn’t be shooting for (or are “too focused on”) is privacy and security.

I understand what you’re trying to say, but if all your personal data gets leaked and used for some sort of fraud then…who cares what you’re wearing on Earth? What good is the ability to see >4 bookmarks in the address bar when you’ve been hacked?

I think a better analogy is a house. The types of features you value – additional customizability and new features – are akin to things such as the color of the house, the trim/siding, lawn, what kind of doors and windows are installed, etc. These are all important aspects of your house and should factor into which one you buy.

Privacy/security is the roof of the house. It’s not flashy, you don’t really see it “in action” in any real way and when you’re inside/using your house you don’t see it at all – but it’s easily one of the most vital components of any house. If you don’t take care of it and your roof collapses, nothing else really matters does it?

Privacy/security should be paramount to everyone online and will always be our priority.

Yes, I see things different now with that analogy.

I also found out after a lot of digging that I can transfer the file “Preferences” and with Sync = enough to have all the settings on the second PC like the first one.
So now is a bit less tidios to transfer profile and move them around different partitions.

Don’t get me wrong, by the way, I came to Brave primarily because of the privacy. And because sites in general are developed with Cromium in mind - because Chrome(ewww!)
