I don’t want this ai slop

Troubleshooting technical issues is much easier when both the user and support agent practice clear communication. For this reason, we have provided the template below for you to fill out with information about your issue. Please provide as much detail as possible so we can most efficiently resolve your problem.

Description of the issue: I don’t want this ai slop

Brave Version (check About Brave): current standard release

Operating System: Linux

I don’t want this ai slop, you have replaced the search button with an ask ai button, this is a search engine not an ask ai engine. stop trying to force this slop down my throat. see image attacted. assuming someone fixes this issue thanks in advance.

No they didn’t. It’s the search bar that also has an Ask AI button alongside of it. There’s no replacement.

Then disable it? In Brave Shields there is a content filter called Anti-AI Search. Turn it on and it will reduce or eliminate these things on websites like Brave Search

thanks for helping, I’ve just tried using the anti ai search filter and it isn’t working maybe it needs to be updated, but I didn’t know that existed before. also there was a search button before I went to bed last night and now it’s gone.

Ah, I see what you mean. On the landing page it has the little search glass missing. I think this is a UI mistake for sure. I’ll tag in @Mattches to see if he can relay to the team.

Outside of the landing page, it seems to retain it, such as you see below. The search glass icon is there.

It kinda looks intentional. (The button is called “submit-llm-button”.)

Also not sure what’s going on with all the <!--]-->'s and such. I might be an old school HTML3/4 web dev, but that’s just…weird.

It seems though, as long as this is off:

In the Brave Search site’s own settings, as long as you press Enter, it will do a regular no AI search. But I have to agree, this UI is starting to feel pushy, and seeing the code makes me feel it was intended this way.

@Mattches

At webpage https://search.brave.com, in the Brave Search Field (not the URL address bar), apparently for some Brave Browser users (I have a completely new installation, first time, on a Windows OS 10 Pro) . . . as the OP reports above, Brave:

“replaced the search button with an ask ai button”

The “search button” ← magnifying glass icon → is gone. An Ask AI button exists.

On the Windows OS 10 Pro > When I enter search criteria in the Brave Search Field - one word example: “7zip” - and

  1. tap the Enter key on my keyboard,
  2. instead of Brave Search Engine proceeding immediately to search,
  3. the search criteria text moves UPWARD and
  4. disappears from view in the Brave Search Field
  5. and a mini scroll bar appears in the right area of the Brave Search Field,
  6. as the Enter key ONLY functions now → as a Carriage Return/New Line feed (CR/NL) ← UNEXPECTEDLY.

Otherwise on my MacOS 14.8.3 Sonoma computer, the Brave Search Field magnifying glass icon is also missing (PS. I have a custom filter that is hiding an AI button in the Search Field), but the Enter key functions AS EXPECTED and much preferred:

Both Windows OS and MacOS computers are using Brave Browser stable release v1.86.142

UPDATE - I tried:

Windows OS Registry

The registry path and value that (help to) disable Brave AI chat (Leo) on Windows OS 11 and apparently on Windows OS 10:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\BraveSoftware\Brave

Create or set this value under that Brave key:

  • Name: BraveAIChatEnabled
  • Type: REG_DWORD (32‑bit)
  • Data: 0 (zero to disable)

Exit / Quit everything and Restarted the Windows OS machine. Possibly that was a fix/workaround, because now, the https://search.brave.com webpage for Brave Browser (Windows OS 10 Pro), works the same as on the Mac.

BTW, the magnifying glass icon - “search button” - exists when at the Brave Search results webpage (Brave Browser - Windows OS 10 Pro):

Also, I used brave://flags and DISABLED every AI Chat “experiment” listed.

May 2025 report (still open) by @orba:

Brave search new-lines on enter button

Cannot reproduce. Ensure “Shift” is not stuck down, as Shift will cause a LR/CR in that box. EDIT: Just saw a second user say the same thing, but they have Android. Android’s enter button isn’t actually “Enter”, it changes based on text input box style, so maybe that’s a hint. Perhaps you don’t have shift stuck, but my Brave rendered it properly as Enter means commit, but somehow some browsers aren’t registering Enter means commit.
