Horrible UX issue with expanding sidebars

Description of the issue:

When using auto-expanding side tabs, if you hover just slightly too long over a given collapsed sidebar site icon (and it’s almost always too long), then when you click to select it, you’re clicking on the close button of the just-expanded site entry, and lose the tab.

How can this issue be reproduced?

See above.

Expected result:

Don’t close the tab accidentally.

I don’t know how to solve this, but you have to admit it’s a pretty egregious user experience. Maybe don’t enable the close button for a half second after expanding the sidebar?

Brave Version( check About Brave):

1.80.113

Additional Information:

@cpryland not entirely sure I understand the issue fully. Here’s what I see when I enable vertical tabs in Brave and set them to expand on mouse-over:

As you can see, the tabs list expands out as expected and stays expanded until I move my mouse off the tab strip. The close/x button stays to the right side of the tab.

Yes, that’s what it does, but it forces you to hover and wait for the expansion, which takes a half-second, before you can click on a given tab. I want to just click on the unexpanded icon to select it to save that delay.

See Problem with vertical tabs on the right – same problem.

Oh I see – sorry I kept my tabs on the left and neglected the side that displayed on which makes all the difference. It looks like that issue was opened some time ago – I’ve added your report to the GH thread and will ping some folks internally to see if we can get any movement on it.
