Highlight duplicate tabs

There are a few requests already about how to deal with the duplicate tabs situation (when you happen to have the same URL opened in multiple tabs).
The general request is to somehow automatically close the duplicates, which is hard to do right because there are legitimate use cases for opening multiple tabs to the very same URL.

Opera handles this in a pretty subtle way: it just highlights all of the identical tabs whenever one of them is hovered on in the tabs bar.
This combined with TabTab Search extension allows me to avoid tab duplication very efficiently.

I’d love to see this highlight duplicate tabs feature in Brave !

I remember one version of Internet Explorer used to give the same color to all tabs generated from a parent tab (such as if you opened a link in a new tab). Despite my misgivings about Internet Explorer, I thought it was a neat feature and something I would welcome in Brave.

Thanks for the suggestion, nico57!

Yes, that’s a feature I miss from Opera too.

You can use tab groups to color tabs.
(click here to learn how to collapse and expand them)

Thanks, that’s a really cool feature, but what we want here that the browser automagically highlights the tabs with same url, so we’ll see that there is a duplicate. It’s really handy in some cases.

I’m a little late to the party but I just swapped over from Opera GX and the highlight for a clone tab on hover is literally a game changer for me. Would love to see this on brave as well.

I want this too. It would be really a cool feature to have.

It doesn’t highlight duplicate tabs, but the Reuse Tabs browser extension prevents the opening of duplicate tabs. Perhaps that’ll be useful here?

While you can’t highlight duplicate tabs at this time, there is a quick command you can use to easily/quickly close the duplicate tabs:

  1. In the address bar, press Ctrl + Space
  2. Type Close duplicate tabs
  3. Press enter

Whatever tab you’re on, it will close any duplicates present. Again, not the same as the feature being requested here but may help out regardless.

Hello Mattches, thanks for your input.
I can’t find a Close duplicate tabs command in the Ctrl + Space quick command menu.
Anyway, that’s not what I want to achieve here, I want to identify duplicate tabs and review them instead of blindly closing one of them and potentially losing some information (just because 2 tabs are opened to the same URL does not mean their content is the same).
I’m now using Duplicate Tab Detector, but this does not even come close to Opera’s tab highlight feature.
