This is completely unacceptable. I have been using Brave for over a year and had extremely important passwords and bookmarks saved. After installing a routine update, everything was suddenly gone… just like that.
I first noticed something was wrong when I tried to log in to a website and no saved credentials appeared in the Password Manager. I then realized the profile icon in the top right bar was missing entirely. When I opened the menu and went to Settings → Sync, I was presented with a “Start using sync” button, as if I had never used Brave before.
As a result of this update, I’ve lost all of my data. Some of these passwords and bookmarks were very important to me, and I may never be able to recover them. This happened solely because of an update I was prompted to install.
I used to like Brave, but after this experience, it’s time to move on. At the very least, fix these sync-related issues or clearly warn users to back up their data before updating to a new version.

I simply clicked the yellow “Relaunch to update” button that appeared in the menu.
Expected result:
All existing profiles, passwords, bookmarks, and sync data should remain intact after updating.
