Forgets new bookmarks and settings every time I close brave

Hi for about the last 6 months whenever I bookmark a new siteit will indeed bookmark the site.

However as soon as I close Brave then open a new session all my new bookmarks just vanish.

My old bookmarks remain incredibly frustrating I have to literally save all my bookmarks in Edge to preserve them.

I hate using Edge and love Brave however this is incredibly frustrating

Also settings aren’t preserved either for example:

Changing search engine settings or autohiding the sidebar to OFF again just immediately revert every new session.

I could bookmark export and import every session but its a massively frustrating user experience!

Please HELP!

What OS and Brave version?

If you create a new profile and bookmark a site, do you still see the same issue?

Menu → More Tools → Add New Profile

Hi I thought it worked however after restarting my PC the new profile has disappeared too its like all settings are read only and return to previous state it doesn’t remember any settings changes bookmarks only thing restored is my tabs but that’s all

Re Bookmarks not sticking: Perhaps, a complete Reset of:

Locate the Bookmarks and Bookmarks.bak files, and delete them?

Saving Cookies and Some Site Data

In a Brave Browser New Window go to the On exit tab at: brave://settings/clearBrowserData ← There, DISABLE both: Cookies and other site data and Site and Shields Settings.

Tips regarding Brave Shields:

I have more success, with:

  • Brave Shields UP
  • Either Allow All Cookies or Block 3rd Party Cookies, but NOT Blocking All Cookies
  • Allowing JavaScripts from specific sources, but NOT Allowing All JavaScripts
  • Trackers & Ads treatment: Aggressive (at first), and then incrementally relaxing that setting
  • Fingerprinting (aka footprinting) blocking: Strict (at first), and then incrementally relaxing that setting

I almost NEVER use:

  • All of Brave Shields UP
  • All of Brave Shields DOWN

The 'Continue where you left off' Setting

The “Continue where you left off” setting, is intended to preserve specific site data - useful for resuming sessions (not for preserving Bookmarks, Extensions, Passwords, Sync, Tabs).

If you have the browser set to launch with specific sites or Continue where you left off, sites that load when the browser is relaunched, will appear in history.

Continue where you left off only applies to applications that are fully “Quit”. In Windows, hitting the x button to “close” the browser effectively does this. On MacOS however, clicking the RED button (upper/left corner of the browser window), only closes the window - it does not quit the process.

Thanks for your help i reset everything as you described, then when I deleted the bookmarks and bookmarks.bak I realized I’d moved the folder when I was running out of space on my C drive and I had symlinked all the files to the drive so I have restored the original location as well its fixed now
