Feature Request: Open new tab by middle-clicking on the tab bar empty space

Hello Brave team,

I would like to request a feature that many users coming from other browsers
(such as Firefox) are familiar with:

Middle-clicking on an empty area of the tab bar should open a new tab.

Currently, middle-clicking on a tab closes it, but clicking on the empty
space in the tab bar does nothing. Many browsers support this behavior and
it provides a much faster and more ergonomic way to open new tabs without
moving the mouse to a button or using keyboard shortcuts.

Expected behavior:

  • Middle mouse button click on empty tab bar space → Opens a new tab

Why this matters:

  • Improves mouse-based navigation efficiency
  • Familiar behavior for users coming from Firefox and other browsers
  • Small change with a big usability impact

Thank you for considering this request!
