Expanded Customization for Brave Sidebar

I am requesting that Brave allow greater customization of the sidebar, beyond the current limited set of built-in apps. Specifically, users should be able to:

  • Add any website or web app as a sidebar item.

  • Pin third-party or custom sidebar apps, not just Brave’s default selection.

  • Potentially organize, resize, and reorder sidebar items for personal workflow optimization.

Why this should be seriously considered:

  • Improved productivity: Users could integrate frequently used web tools directly into the sidebar, streamlining workflows without needing multiple tabs or windows.

  • Flexibility for power users: Developers, researchers, and multitaskers often rely on custom web apps that are currently excluded from the sidebar. Allowing full customization would make Brave far more useful for advanced users.

  • Competitive advantage: Other browsers offer similar sidebar customization or extensions. Enabling this in Brave would make it more appealing to users who want a truly personalized browsing environment.

Expanding sidebar functionality would turn it into a flexible, central hub for browsing and productivity, aligning with Brave’s goal of combining privacy, performance, and user empowerment.

I really back this idea.

Could the developers run an assessment for the useability / user experience of the Sidebar?
It is, in a word, unfinished.

A first glance of Reddit suggests not a lot of people use it. If formal data also shows the Sidebar user base is low, why not try some novel out of the box features for Sidebar?
Perhaps there are ideas within the most popular Brave extensions?
