Subject: UX Flaw: Leo AI instructs users to clear browser data without warning them it permanently deletes chat history
Description:
I am writing to report a serious user experience and safety flaw regarding Brave Leo AI’s troubleshooting instructions.
Yesterday, while troubleshooting a browser issue, Leo AI explicitly instructed me to clear my browser history, cookies, site data, and cache. I followed these instructions to resolve the technical glitch. However, because Leo AI operates strictly on local site data and does not utilize cloud backups, this action permanently and irreversibly wiped out months of my individual chat histories across multiple topics that I relied on for repeat reference.
An AI assistant should never instruct a user to perform a blanket “Clear Data” action without providing a prominent, explicit warning that doing so will permanently destroy the user’s entire local AI conversation history. Treating valuable, long-term reference chats as disposable temporary data is a critical flaw.
Requested Changes:
- Guardrails on Prompt Outputs: Update Leo AI’s system prompts so that if it ever recommends clearing cache, cookies, or site data, it is programmatically required to append a clear warning: “Warning: Clearing site data will permanently delete all your Leo AI chat histories. Please back up important information first.”
- UI Protection: Implement a separate, protected local storage category for Leo AI histories so they are not bundled into the standard, easily wiped “Cookies and other site data” bin, or add a warning dialog box within the
brave://settings/clearBrowserDatamenu.
Please address this so other users do not accidentally destroy their work while simply following Leo’s own troubleshooting advice.
