Erratic tabs constantly freezing

Description of the issue:

Lately, I’ve been experiencing many issues at different instances where tabs suddenly freeze completely or go black alltogether. This happens regardless if it is the tab I am currently running (in this case it does not go blank but usually freezes, as if the site I am on suddenly becomes an image), or if it is a dormant tab I go back to, or even when I open a new tab and try to access a URL on it. Two example images below:

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.

This happens irregularly, so it may be that for a couple of days all goes well and suddenly the behaviour starts again.
I’ve already tried:

  • Removing all of the extensions
  • Reinstalling Brave
  • Disabling Brave shield for almost every site (pretty much defeating the purpose of using Brave)
  • Removing all historical cache

The result is always the same, works for a while and after some time it happens again.

As you can see on the screenshot below, it is happening only with the Bitwarden extension activated, shields down, a recently reinstalled brave and shields down.

I am at a point where not sure how to progress.

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):

Expected result:
Normal behaviour of tabs

Reproduces how often:

Irregularly, hard to say but 1 very week or every 2 weeks at most

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
MacOS Sequoia 15.5, Apple M1 Pro, Brave Version 1.78.102 Chromium: 136.0.7103.113 (Official Build) (arm64) ---- I see there is an update now, but I tend to have it up to date.

Additional Information:

Something weird is that when the tab that I am working on suddenly freezes and seems to become like a static image, it would seem that certain things re still happening behind. For example, I am navigating Linkedin, the tab frozes but if I click around stuff I see the navbar changing as if opening the links or actions I am clicking on.

Zero responses in almost a month :frowning: I guess nobody is facing similar issues?

@user_99

If you create an extra Brave Browser Profile and only use a few tabs, does the problem occur?

If you create an additional MacOS user account, and run Brave Browser, then that would also cause a new Brave Browser Profile to be created (for the new MacOS user account) - in a more separate environment from your traditional MacOS user account - and then test → does the problem occur?

If you toggle OFF Graphics Acceleration, does that seem to fix things?

How do other Internet browsers fare? Microsoft Edge is also a Chromium -based browser that you could test.

Suggestion: Get to know the Brave Browser (“BB”) Task Manager, and the BB Developer Tools > Network window . . . so that you become accustomed to observing the browser’s performance and the data traffic issues.
