Disable prompt to move address bar

Description of the issue:

When I tap on an open address bar it does not allow me access to the address bar content (I can’t edit it, copy it, share it etc.). Instead I get Pop-up saying “move address bar to the bottom”.

There is no way to access the address bar, I just have to keep opening new tabs, and can’t copy or share links!

Also the stupid popup is so close to my finger when I tap the address bar that it gets pressed accidentally all the time, and the address bar moves, and then I have to keep going into settings to change it back.

This stupid bug is driving me crazy!!! Please fix or tell me how to disable it! I have Googled it and searched the community forum using many many wording variations but can’t find a fix. It only started happening recently.

I’ve been using Brave for years but this is enough to make me stop! I don’t want a work around of any kind, I don’t want to adapt to it or do anything differently - I want this bug/feature gone!!!

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Go to any open tab

  2. Tap on address bar

Expected result:

Fix to make to go away completely, or give me clear instructions to completely disable it so it b never ever comes back!

I do not want any kind of work around. I want this to stop happening.

Although realistically my expected result is that Brave support staff will totally ignore this and not respond, which is exactly what happened with my previous two support requests

@Mel this isn’t a bug. If you press and hold down then that’s the option you get. If you want to copy, share, or anything else then you single tap rather than holding it down. Or you can do it via the hamburger (three dot) menu.

If you just single tap and don’t hold, it would be like:

Here the address bar goes blank in case I want to search something. But just under you see the address I’m at, the share icon, the paper icon which is “Copy,” and the pencil icon which is “Edit.” So all of those are there.

But as you said, if you hold down consistently:

Then it goes to the other option, which is to assume you want to move the address bar.

The other option is as I said, the hamburger menu. I have the bottom navigation bar enabled, so the hamburger menu is there for me.

Then I can tap the Share button: image

And all of the various share options become available

To be honest I have never seen that notification before and I have no idea what is triggering it. First, before anything else, can you please check the Google Play Store and update Brave to the latest build – v1.82.166 at the time of writing this.

Once updated, please test again and let me know if the issue persists. If it does, can you please try:

  1. Launching Brave, then going to Menu --> Settings --> Appearance --> Address bar
  2. Set it to Bottom.
  3. Relaunch the browser when prompted

Tap on the address bar at the bottom – does the notification appear? If it does not, go back to the same Settings page as before (Settings --> Appearance --> Address bar) and set it back to Top. Relaunch again and try tapping the address bar and see if the same notification appears.

@Mattches in the settings it even says it happens. Touch and hold to get the menu to come up.

It seems they don’t like this design choice and want to be able to tap and hold without triggering the option.

Ah I see – thanks for clarifying. Did not realize that you could do that. You learn something everyday I guess.

@Mel please ignore my last comment as I was unclear on what exactly it was you were saying.

As @Saoiray stated, you do not have to press and hold to edit/copy/share/etc the URL in the address bar. Simply tap the URL and all of the available options will appear, as shown in @Saoiray’s screenshot:

:backhand_index_pointing_up: Observe under the address bar, there is the (from left to right) share link, copy link, and edit URL buttons.
