Delete data cache from the storage

I want to be able to delete the ”Documents & Data” whenever I like. Right now it seems I can only do that by uninstallong the app.

What you are asking for is a limitation on iOS (according to what you are saying, with regards to the screenshot),
if you want to clear data in Brave for iOS:

  1. Click the three dots/ellipsis “…” at the bottom right corner of any window in Brave
  2. Click and open “Settings”
  3. Click and open “Shields & Privacy”
  4. Scroll down and select the data you want to remove under “Clear Private Data”
  5. Then with the buttons selected, hit the “Clear Data Now” at the bottom of that section.
  6. You can also choose to delete data per website, if you go into “Manage Website Data” just below the above section.
  7. Note: though that if you have any tabs open, the data will quickly reappear of course
    Hope this helps

Thanks for the instructions. There seems to be some effect on the size of Ducuments & Data.
For example I can see the value drop (have to quickly switch to the ios settings for brave) to 840kB right after I click Clear now, but then it immefiately changes to 217 MB. It does not go lower than that.

I tried clearing the data several times and I got to see the same effect.

Consider the “App Size” as the “App information” itself and…
The “Documents & Data” as the “Operating information” itself…

I don’t know if you’ve used the Desktop version as well but there are a lot of processes for the Desktop version that can make Brave larger than you’d think too. This makes me think of a post/thread from the other day if you care to give that a read, it is again, for the Desktop side of things, but Brave is Brave haha

So what you are seeing is normal, but look at the difference when it comes to the first and second screenshots you shared:

SCREENSHOT 1:
216,6 MB
or to convert those MBs to KBs:

216,000 KB or 2217984
(difference answers different converters but close enough, you can see the difference above # to below screenshot #)

and then CLEAR and you get:

SCREENSHOT 2:
840 KB

That’s a decent change… you’ll never get it to Zero KB, especially since you have to have it open to clear the data… unless you delete the app entirely (or MAYBE offload it, but I’m not even sure about that as it needs to keep some stuff hence only offloading, not deleting).

I understand that 840kb is small. In fact I would be happy if it was that. The thing is that the number goes immediately to 214MB without me doing anything in brave.

And I can see it changing while looking at the storage usage in the ios settings soon after I clear the data in the brave settings as you told me to.

Do you understand what I’m saying? Do you need some other evidence about the size I see?

Do you also have a bunch of filters in:

  1. Brave Settings (…)
  2. Shields & Privacy
  3. Content Filtering

Because that adds extra data to the app as well…

My main point though is that it’s rather minimal and not something to worry about / worth putting up with as Brave is more worthwhile a browser compared to other options…

If that response isn’t good enough, that’s completely fair, as I’ve said in my status ( :man_shrugging: ) < beside my name (hover over it), I’m not an expert, just wanna help… so I’m going to tag/mention someone smarter than I to respond @Saoiray to maybe give his take on things for you  …though note his status ( :mobile_phone_off: ) as well

No worries bro, thanks for the input.

What it feels to me is that there is a bug either in reporting the storage use or in the data clearing itself. Hopefully a dev will pick up on this and shed some light.

I’ll remove the brave app and see what happens once reinstalled. I’m reluctant to do it ’cause I’ll likely lose all the passwords I’ve saved.

Nevertheless, brave is the best browser I came along in a long time, hence the nagging about its features / functionality to have them in top shape. If that were not the case I’ve probably moved away from it…

Peace.

Since you mentioned Passwords, I might suggest checking out BitWarden (see link below), it’s a free, open-source password manager that might help you, I have personally been using 1Password for about a decade and have a family plan setup but this is a good alternative, especially to those who save passwords in browser limiting passwords to within one app compared to full password managers to use elsewhere and across platforms.

With that said I obviously don’t use Brave for passwords but this came up recently for exporting passwords so I’ll leave this with you:
