ChatGPT Dictate Feature Fails in Brave Browser

Hello Brave Support,

I would like to report what appears to be a compatibility issue between Brave Browser and ChatGPT’s Dictate feature.

Issue

When I click the microphone (Dictate) button in the ChatGPT message box to dictate text, it immediately displays:

Content failed to load

The Dictate feature never starts listening.

Troubleshooting

I have confirmed the following:

  • The exact same ChatGPT account works perfectly in Google Chrome on the same computer.

  • My microphone permissions are enabled.

  • The issue only occurs in Brave.

  • Refreshing the page does not resolve the problem.

Browser Console Errors

The browser console consistently reports the following error:

InvalidStateError: Failed to execute 'showPopover' on 'HTMLElement':
Invalid to show a popover during another show operation

This is followed by multiple React rendering errors originating from the ChatGPT web application.

Based on my testing, this appears to be a Brave specific compatibility issue affecting the Dictate feature, rather than the microphone itself, as everything works correctly in Chrome.

If it would be helpful, I can also provide the complete browser console log and screenshots of the error.

Could you please investigate whether this is a known issue with Brave’s handling of the Popover API or another browser feature that may be affecting ChatGPT’s Dictate functionality?

Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Alan

Hello! Thanks for reporting. This is a known issue we’re looking at currently. If you logout and login again are you still seeing the error?
