Certain YouTube videos only play audio

Description of the issue: For certain YouTube videos no visual is displayed and only audio plays. This happens logged in to Google account or not. Play/pause/mute/etc. still display normally, just over black screen.
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Go to a YouTube video (this is one that it happens on: https://youtu.be/SK1TTvd68u0)

  2. Start playing it.

Expected result: Video should be displayed

Brave Version:

Brave 1.89.141 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Chromium: 147.0.7727.102

Additional Information: This happens consistently on select videos. I have tried on different browsers and those function normally.

Sounds like you are experiencing this issue Youtube video grey/black screen during playback

The interim solution is to roll back to Brave to 1.88.138 version.

It appears this is an issue with the Chromium version being used with newer Brave versions but should be resolved with fixes to Chromium are released and those versions get incorporated into Brave https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/54436

Seems to be fixed with Brave Release Channel 1.89.143 which includes upgraded Chromium to 147.0.7727.117
