Youtube video grey/black screen during playback

Description of the issue: Sometimes Youtube videos go grey/black screen during playback on my device(audio works fine), some videos don’t go black screen and plays normally. Disabling graphics acceleration works, the videos are not black screened anymore but browser starts lagging cause graphic acceleration is off. Turning on the acceleration resolves browser lag but then again the youtube video black screen starts. Tried restarting the browser and my device and also disabled all extensions and disabled brave shield, nothing works except for disabling acceleration. This problem didn’t happen 2 days ago when I had a old version of brave, the problem only started after updating the browser today. I am currently using “Linux Mint 22.3 Zena”. Graphics card is RTX 4050 and CPU is i5-13500HX. Brave version 1.89.132. Chromium 147.0.7727.56
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Use Linux Mint 22.3 Zena

  2. Use Brave browser version 1.89.132

  3. Play any youtube video

Expected result: Black/Grey screen on videos.

Brave Version( check About Brave): 1.89.132

Additional Information: Not sure but I think the problem looks similar to this , but it was fixed in a update 5 months ago.

Disabling graphic acceleration helps but browser starts lagging, so any other solutions?

This is my first time posting a issue, so sorry for the any sloppiness and mistakes.

Yes, didn’t solve the problem. I have also mentioned it in the description of the issue.

Sorry I missed that.

Also, I know this is a redundant reply, but clearing cache often fixes glitches for me.

Did that too, didn’t work either.

Looks like the same issue I had as highlighted here Whatsapp and some youtube videos play but only show a fuzzy background and audio - #7 by mac1508

What worked for me was to roll back Brave to 1.88.138 version

I used Synaptic Package Manager to force a version. Search for brave-browser and use the “Force version” option to select the 1.88.138 version. I have then set the update manager to ignore the 1.89.132 version update.

For note this issue is still evident in the latest 1.89.137 version

Thanks, Downgrading seems to work, but do the devs know about this issue?

As well as being the subject of 3 topics in this forum it has been raised as an issue in github but looks like it has not been picked up (assigned) yet. The challenge maybe that this could be a Chromium issue rather than a Brave one!
