Right now, if you use any aggregator sites Brave is just an awful experience, because you can’t see which links you’ve already clicked on. And if you aren’t planning on bringing it back please communicate that, so people don’t stick around for nothing.
The links should go grey/purple even if you just expand them or go to the comment section. Right now they only turn grey/purple if you actually visit the domain that is linked to.
Taking reddit for example, you’ll see posts that are from the domain “v.reddit.it” or “i.reddit.it. There is no external link for these posts, but you still can’t just expand the post or go to the comment section and have the color of the link change, you have to actually click on the link.
Same goes for any other post that isn’t the domain “reddit.” or “self.” Here’s a screenshot of me expanding posts 3, 4, and 6 on r/new. Only the link to the “self.” post is grey.
Expanding the thread will/should not display the link as visited. This is how it works in Brave as well as other browsers. I just tested in Chrome, Firefox and Edge, they all show the same behavior as Brave (Firefox shown below):
Clicking link itself – link turns gray/visited
Clicking on comments (or otherwise entering the thread) – link turns gray/visited
Clicking to expand content in-page – link displays as unvisited
Happy to test other sites you’re seeing this on if you provide them.
That’s why I want the flags back. They let you disable the partitioning of the visited link database, so that the database could be shared among different domains.
