I’ve already added 48 websites in new tabs. If I try to add more by clicking ‘Add site’, my favorites no longer show up.

It’s amazing what you can find with the search feature, I’d encourage you to use it, click the magnifying glass then the filters button on the right side of the search field that pops down, update the sort by to “Latest Post” and voila:
