Bug Report: Unable to drag vertical tab into group that only has a single tab

Not the biggest issue, but it is something that has tripped me up here and there. I can’t seem to find any prior reports of this, so I wanted to share. EDIT: I found other similar posts, but they have all been closed due to inactivity. I have updated this post with info from those.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Create tab group with only 1 tab in it.
  2. Attempt to drag another tab into said group.
  3. The 2nd tab is unable to be added to the group and only moves around it.
  4. EDIT: Additionally, if you have a group with exactly 2 tabs, clicking and dragging one of those tabs will immediately remove that tab from the group. Then, you will encounter the same issue as above and will not be able to re-add the tab to the group.

Workarounds:

  • Use horizontal tabs. Issue only affects vertical.
  • Use the ‘Add Tab to Group’ option when right clicking on the tab.
  • Have another open tab group with more than 1 tab and place it adjacent to the tab group of interest (that only has 1 tab).
    • Oddly enough, dragging the ungrouped tab through the group with multiple tabs will allow you to add it to the group with only a single tab.

I am using the latest version of Brave and macOS. (EDIT: There are enough reports of this bug that I don’t think it’s version/system-specific). Regardless, I appreciate the browser and hope this helps!

same here, I just found this by searching google for brave cannot drag vertical tab to group and gemini gave me your workaround to use right click, which works, so thank you very much for posting this!

Can you link all the previous reports here? I think it would help an engineer work on this issue when they get assigned to it.

We do have an open issue for this already – I’ve just added this and some other reports to the issue. Hopefully we can get some eyes on this soon.
