Description of the issue: YouTube videos stop playing after a short time. I’ll load a video, and 10-30 seconds in, it will stop. I attempt to press pause (to press play again), but the pause does nothing. I can refresh the page, fast forward to my last spot, but it will freeze in the same spot. It will be on any video. My guess is that it is buffering, but I can’t be sure. I have tried disabling Shield, which allows ads, but it still freezes. Brave app is updated. this is on iOS.
How can this issue be reproduced?
-
Play any YouTube video.
-
Wait.
-
Notice it freezes.
Expected result: I expect it not to freeze.
Brave Version( check About Brave): 1.84 (140)
Mobile Device details iPhone SE 3rd gen, iOS 18.7.2
Additional Information: works fine on desktop (PC) Brave browser. So I know it is not my internet connection.
I don’t generally assist with iOS/Mac issues (even though I worked at Apple previously, because it was during Mavericks/iOS 7, so my knowledge is now dated), but I’m curious about this one.
Have you tried other browsers on your iPhone to see if it does the same thing just to rule things out (it helps narrow things down since we’d want to start with eliminating what not causing it).
Another thing you can try, I believe on Mobile YouTube (been a while since I accessed mobile YouTube from a browser and not used the official app, yea I suffer through the ads I don’t know why, lol) you should have an option for “Stats for nerds” as well. When it freezes if you can get a screenshot of that stats for nerds text it would actually be great.
(Screenshot from PC, but the look of this usually is the same across platforms, it tells us everything about YouTube’s player and how it’s being fed the video over the network, decoded, etc).
Thanks for the reply. Of course, now that I go to get the stats for nerds it does not freeze. As soon as the problem happens again, I’ll get the stats.
I’ll also test Firefox on the same device to see if it freezes.
Heh, sometimes electronics are like that, once under the scope they behave.
Yea, if and when it happens again (I’m sure it will based on the frequency you were stating), I’ll be happy to look at the stats for nerd or anyone else.
I wonder if it was a problem I was having with my internet? It hasn’t happened again yet (though I’ve only watched one more video since my post). Will keep this topic bookmarked and report back if it happens. Thanks so much for pointing me to that stats for nerds though, I think it will be helpful.
