Brave Web Browser displays other windows incorrectly when one window is fullscreen

Description of the issue:

When one Brave Browser window is full screen, any other window displays incorrectly, often offsetting where the graphics should display.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open Brave Web Browser

  2. Fullscreen Brave Web Browser with F11 on one of the displays.

  3. Open another window of Brave Web Browser and click maximize.

Expected result:

Displays each window of Brave Web Browser in the correct position.

Brave Version( check About Brave):

v1.95.101

Additional Information:

Issue occurs on Linux Mint.

Works here, as expected (per my system) … using your exact “reproduce” steps. Same version of Brave on openSUSE Leap with KDE / X11 environment.

I assume you [might] be using KDE? You should specify your environment when posting (“Linux Mint” isn’t detailed)

I use the standard out of box Linux Mint setup, so I have x11.

The desktop environment would be, for example:
KDE, GNOME, Cinnamon, MATE, XFCE, etc etc.

I use Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop environment.

Thanks for the update.

So, you’re using Cinnamon and having issues. I can’t recreate the issue, but I’m using KDE (Plasma).

That’s why it’s important to mention the DE (desktop environment) in a post. There is the possibility that your issue is because of some Cinnamon quirk, versus a Brave issue.

So, if someone else out here is using Cinnamon … maybe they can do a test and provide feedback.

Another quick and easy troubleshooting step for you would be to
a. Create a brand new user account (consider it a testing user account).
b. Log out of your regular user account, then log in to the new user account.
c. Now, fire up Brave and see if you can reproduce the issue.

No issue? It is quite possible there is something rwong with your regular user-account configuration. (in ~/.config or ~/.cache).

Another thing you might consider. Posting this in a Mint (Cinnamon) forum in the ‘Application’ section. It’s my experience that I get better (and quicker) responses (I use openSUSE Linux, so I use those forums).

( sidenote … I recently had an issue with Brave and Chrome crashing - would not even start up. It turns out there is a setting in KDE/X11 that was causing the issue … I’ll bet if I was using Cinnamon or GNOME, etc., they wouldn’t crash, because the DEs operate differently ).

I believe this is a reported Chromium bug:

It shows in both Brave and Chrome. The original poster says he’s on KDE, but he corrects himself later - he’s on Cinnamon. Other replies make the connection to the above report clearer. One of the latest posts is the exact problem here - he says it shows on copies launched through the “New Window” context menu item, but does not show when the new window is launched through ctrl-N. This is precisely the behavior I’m seeing as well.
