I recently noticed that when i open brave even if it’s only 2 tabs it uses so much RAM and my fans goes crazy that i can’t use my laptop at a library because it’s so loud .
I have 4 extensions and with 1 tab open it uses around 725 mb of RAM i don’t know how to fix it but it’s bothering me.
Test without any extensions to be sure
Honestly I have 3 more extensions on Brave than I do on Chromium, and with BOTH browsers parked on search.brave.com, both are showing similar RAM usage. I only am seeing a 100MB addition over Chromium on Brave in task manager simply because Brave has 3 more active extensions. (And yes, Chromium actually has more “baggage processes” as I call it as compared to Brave, as Chromium with 1 extension required 9 processes to run, whereas Brave with 4 installed extensions only needed 10 processes. That’s efficiency.)
You really should consider those extensions AND/OR the website you are visiting. It isn’t the 90’s anymore, we’re past HTML3, we’re at the age of where websites routinely require hundreds of megabytes of RAM. Ever wonder how much RAM YouTube takes to simply look at the page?
300MB alone. So let’s take Brave’s 342MB, which is simply staring at search.brave.com, but that’s Brave and all of it’s tasks.
Wonder how much RAM Brave is now consuming while looking at Youtube.com and not search.brave.com?
That’s right! Almost a gigabyte now.
The extensions you choose to install, and the websites you chose to visit, dictate how much memory is required for both the page itself, the parser, GPU compositor, etc.
I deleted my extentions and i only have community.brave.app opened it says 560 mb
