Brave under ANDROID. I cannot edit or install personalized search engine

To prevent Google search results from being a pile of junk, there’s an option to edit the search engine address to https://www.google.com/search?udm=14&q=%s

This option returns clean and efficient “old style” search results. The current desktop version of Barve continues to offer this option, but it is no longer possible in the Android version.

In previous versions of Brave Android, I had the option to insert or edit search engines, but this option has now disappeared.

How can I insert a new search engine with the address: https://www.google.com/search?udm=14&q=%s ???

If I can’t install my personalized search engine, I will migrate to Mozilla Firefox.

@Canazei

So the instructions at:

‘https://support.brave.app/hc/en-us/articles/360017479752-How-do-I-set-my-default-search-engine’

are not working for you?

Turned out, the instructions DO NOT apply to Android ?! <-- my bad!

Set the default Internet browser on your computing device, to something other than Brave Browser.

Set the default Search Engine in Brave Browser Settings, to something other than Google.

Thoroughly Exit / Quit Brave Browser. Then start up Brave Browser, and try again (screenshot from the instructions):

IF you are unable to edit the URL for Google, then scroll down the instructions page to “Adding Search Engines” ← you might have to Previously, Delete the establishment Google entry and then Exit / Quit then Restart Brave Browser . . . and then add your customized version.

PS. I do not know what, of the settings involved, you are seeing on your Android device. One or more screenshots would help - I am merely a fellow member of this forum, and I do not have an Android device.

Thanks 289WK.

Brave for Android has no longer the option to manage search engines.

I only can choose one from the “closed" list provided by Brave.

No edit, no manage, no add, no delete…. Nothing than choose is allowed.

Weeks ago It was possible. Now only is available in desktop version.

I don’t want to choose between the search engines list.

@Canazei did you come from iPhone? The reason I’m asking is the iPhone version of Brave has allowed people to add and edit search engine. However, the Android version of Brave never has. Or at least it’s been several years or more, if it did.

Kind of “proof” of this would be all the requests made over the years.

Basically, Android has always required it to be part of OpenSearch and it will automatically add search engines as you use them. But it never let us add or edit ourselves. This is one of the negatives of Android

@Saoiray

I am but the weedhopper, duh.

Just for fun..

Android vs iPhone Users Worldwide (2025) Android powers a staggering 3.9-4.5 billion active users globally, while iOS has 1.56-1.8 billion in 2025
