Brave still pinging even though its setting is turned off

Even if daily pinging to Brave is turned off, it keeps on pinging, as shown by the DNS logs (it is blocked for me, but it is still trying).

Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced?
Turn off daily ping to brave and look at DNS records.

Expected result:
There should be no pinging at all when this setting is turned off.

Brave Version: 1.77.95

  • How long ago did you install Brave?
  • Were you monitoring your DNS requests before turning off the usage ping?
  • How often do you see these attempted requests?

  • Few weeks ago (I cannot look bc I reinstalled Windows)
  • Yes but not from Brave.
  • I guess once a day.
