Description of the issue: Brave shuts down spontaneously, status access violation, status breakpoint

Additional Information: I just formatted my computer because of this issue alone because nothing else I saw here in the forum and tried worked and it keeps happening even after a fresh windows install.

Hi!
I’ve been struggling with the same issue — frequent status access violation / status breakpoint crashes in Brave on Windows 11 (25H2, i9-13900HX, RTX 4070). I saw your post and wanted to ask if you’ve already found any solution or workaround?
I’ve tried full system reinstall, disabling hardware acceleration, and clean profile reset — nothing seems to help.
I tried overvolting the cpu by increasing the Core Voltage Offset by +0.005 / +0.010 / +0.015, this could increase temperature but it seemed to stabilize the crashes, not by 100% though as I am still getting crashes just less frequently.
I noticed some websites crash way more than others and I have no clue still to why that is.
By reading posts like this from years ago in the forum I realized this is an old issue and people have tried to fix it by doing all sorts of fixes and I also could not find a pattern between them.
So the current state is not fixed yet and I’d like someone from the Brave Team to jump in and this may also be an issue with the intel processor.
@ldstrapasson first, can you please update to the latest browser version (1.83.120) and confirm that the issue still occurs? If so, can you please go back to the brave://crashes page and ensure that you send/upload the crash reports, then come back here and share the IDs so we can have our devs take a look?

@ldstrapasson no response yet – apologies for the wait time here. In the meantime, can you confirm that the crashes are still occurring at roughly the same rate they were before? If so, can you share any of the newer crash reported IDs that were generated so I can give the devs more updated info?
@Mattches No worries at all. I can confirm it still happens. I just clicked on Send Now to see if it actually sends the reports (I have no idea why it just wont send). I have crashes every single time I use the browser, the one that most occurs is status access violation and spontaneous shut downs with no apparent reason even if Im not using brave and doing any action.
Thank you for the update. Yeah when the reports do send please share the IDs here. I’ve pinged the thread internally again to see if I can get some eyes on it.
This user has may have a CPU with “degradation” as it’s one of the generations affected by this:
The Microsoft article infers updating the BIOS will fix it. That’s honestly not entirely true however if anyone’s been paying attention to the silicon industry in the past few years. This is an oxidation issue on the chip itself, BIOS may patch and slow it down, but you all should be aware you’re troubleshooting a CPU literally known for problems of this very nature.
While yes, their part number ends in “HX” and those affected are “K”, or “KS”, there’s clearly a relation when the issues are down to the type of errors, access violations, breakpoints, etc. We should be considering the history of this CPU, and the legacy it unfortunately created (and now it seems even some 12th gens might be affected too).
Brave Devs: Please research the Intel i9 degradation incident, it seems none of you are aware that this happened, and are chasing error logs potentially from a CPU having a brain aneurism, therefore the logs don’t point to a software issue, or even a true RAM issue, it’s the CPU’s own cores that aren’t functioning correctly anymore.
While I certainly hope this isn’t the case, let’s start considering it, because this and the other user have identical errors, which are now well documented for over a year with Intel i9’s specifically, and oxidation/degradation related specifically as well.
Let’s see what happens from now on and Ill report back while brave team is investigating on their side. I only have crashes using brave, everything else is working 100%.

Step 5 is a perfect test as instead of turning off the p-cores, you can keep them on but just use a smaller ratio (which on degraded CPU’s, makes them crash either less or not at all, so another good test).
Hopefully that actually works, because a soft-patch is better than asking Intel for a new CPU, as you likely wouldn’t feel much difference with such a small ratio change anyway. The hope is it reduces power transients on the p-cores themselves.
(If Brave is honestly the only thing doing this, it means Brave is more optimized and using the most of your CPU cycles, hence the transient spikes are harder, that’s good code optimization actually. I honestly don’t feel it’s degradation technically, just that the effect is similar. It’s honestly possible your BIOS was pushing the CPU a little too hard for too long, IF this works, and this is a good way to fix it without flashing a new BIOS update.)
