Hello, good afternoon. I hope you can look into a problem that the Brave Nightly browser has with downloads using the IDM (Internet Download Manager) extension. When trying to download any file, for example WinRAR, the IDM application does not run to initialize the download but leaves it pending as a download with the browser’s own downloader.
First, I tested it with Brave Nightly, and then I tested it with Brave Standard. If you can see it with Nightly, it does not run the IDM extension, but with Brave Standard, it does run the IDM extension to download files.
This happened from version 1.87.x.x.x onwards, and currently, with version 1.88.x.x.x, the problem persists.
I hope this post is useful for improving the stability of the IDM program.
I will forward this report to the team for review. It may be the case that later Chromium builds don’t support whatever code/mechanism is used to link the IDM extension to the IDM software application on the PC.
One way you can check this would be to download the Chrome/Chromium Canary or dev builds and test to see if the IDM extension works there. If it does, then Brave will receive the same fix as we update our Chromium versions.
Hello, following the instructions you gave me, I’m afraid it doesn’t work with Chrome/Canary, so it’s likely that IDM’s incompatibility with newer versions of the browser won’t solve the problem.
I think it will be up to the IDM programmers to solve this issue.
@zekecarter15 have you made sure that you’re using the more recent extension? They had transitioned from MV2 to MV3 and made some fairly recent updates to fix some problems. You also may need to change some of the settings inside IDM.
Thank you for responding. I have already updated IDM to the latest version, but I suspect that, as you say, it is probably due to the version of the extension.
I have checked the Google extension store, but the latest version of IDM Integration Module is 6.42.50, dated October 9, 2025.
I have posted on the IDM website about the situation that has been happening, as this does not only affect me, but is a general failure for all users.

J’ai effectué des tests avec plusieurs autres navigateurs : Edge, Maxthon, Firefox, et eux ne posent pas de problèmes.

Hello, good evening. I would like to report that I have run a new test with the latest versions of Brave, Brave Nightly, and Google Chrome Canary, and it appears that the problem is with Chromium version 144.0.7559.xx.
The Chromium 146.0.7636.xx version of Google Canary works well with IDM extensions. It seems to be a problem with the previous version of Chromium 144.0.7559.xx, which has recently been updated in Brave and Brave Nightly.
curious to if you found a solution that doesnt involve using another browser? IDM just broke for me sometime last night.. right click and “download with IDM” works but as any IDM user knows “HTML” downloads happen when doing this more often than not.
It may be that you need to contact the IDM developers so they can look into it and fix any problems. This is especially true if it’s happening on Chrome or other Chromium browsers. I do know Exitium said they did not see this on Edge, but I think that just is because it was older Chromium at the time.
I just opened Edge and checked for update, which it is doing now.

It seems that IDM does work now in anything Chromium 144, but as long as IDM is not configured to use a socks5 proxy. When that is enabled IDM no longer works but it does when no proxy is used.
@Exitium Hello, even if the browser extension is up to date, don’t forget to update the IDM program version, as that extension update only works with the latest version of the IDM program, which is 6.42.58.
As a last resort, I would recommend that you back up your personal information (passwords, bookmarks, etc.), then uninstall the Brave browser, run a temporary file cleaner (PC Manager, CCleaner, Vitsoft, etc.), then reinstall the Brave browser and try again. However, I believe that updating the IDM version will be sufficient.

Bien sûr, et logiquement, j’ai vérifié s’il y avait une mise à jour d’IDM, et IDM ainsi que son extension sont à jour au 19 janvier 2026.
Aucun proxy n’est configuré. Je pense que s’il s’agissait d’un problème de proxy configuré dans IDM, celui-ci ne fonctionnerait pas sous Edge ou Maxthon (?).
Dans le doute, j’ai suivi les consignes : nettoyage + réinstallation propre de Brave.
J’ai également testé :
Brave Béta.
Brave Nightly.
Le problème persiste. J’ai contacté d’autres personnes qui rencontraient, elles aussi, ce problème, j’ai partagé les informations fournies, mais, pour elles aussi, la situation est toujours identique.
En attendant une éventuelle mise à jour (même si celle-ci ne vise pas spécialement à résoudre le problème, mais le résoudrait quand même !), j’utiliserai et conseillerai un autre navigateur.
