Brave keeps resetting on launch, logging me out, and breaking extensions

Hi,

I have a really annoying issue with Brave on Windows 11. Over the last 3 days, my browser has reset itself more than 10 times upon launch. A popup appears saying my settings were modified by an external program.

When this happens:

  • I’m logged out of Google, ChatGPT, and other accounts.
  • All my extensions vanish completely.
  • They only appear again (with a “Repair” button) if I force-kill Brave from Task Manager and reopen it. Once repaired, their settings are wiped.

I don’t use any cleaners (like CCleaner), antiviruses, or cracked software.

Any idea why this is happening or how to fix it?

Have you moved, modified or edited any of your browser profile data folders/files after installing?

No, I haven’t moved or modified anything manually.

However, I suspect this started after following a tweak recommended by the Valorant community to disable background services. When the issue first happened (cookies got wiped), I immediately reverted all services back to default. But even after doing that, the issue keeps happening, and I’m not sure what’s causing it now.
